I just finished moving from a small room to this large basement area. Would like to brighten it up need to strip the wallpaper - not my favorite thing to do especially when the the walls weren't sized in this house before the paper was hung. What a mess!!

Scrapping and stamping -- I was really cramped in the other room so my storage was more compact-- I actually spread out now I'm having trouble finding things!!

My friend, Suanne, and I designed my extra bedroom to be my "woman cave" for scrapbooking and reading, however, my teenagers have taken the room over for homework, so my scrapbooking is limited to the white desk in the window alcove. Since homework is actually being completed, I guess that makes this a very successful design!

I have had a dedicated area in 7 of the 8 houses we have owned. The home we're in now, is the largest. All of the unfinished part of the basement. Husband put in very good lighting and we cleaned/ painted everything. Nice and bright. Now, if I could only keep it organized!

I just re-arranged and organized my 12 x 28 foot "workroom" to make it more efficient. It houses my laundry/ironing area, my recumbent bike and workout/yoga equipment, dedicated areas for my office, sewing, craft/painting projects, a wrapping station and fabric storage/cutting table that does double duty as a folding table. Plus I have a large storage cabinet for seasonal décor and even a dog feeding station! Things like a built in ironing board, pegboards and cabinetry with a small sink help to keep the clutter down, so it's not as crowded as it might sound, and I have plenty open space. I have a TV in there as well, to make the time fly when exercising or folding laundry.

Here's my art studio...The first thing that I put in the house were large birds on the wall of the stair well; the first week I lived here. Originally, each of the birds were slightly different to express some characteristic of a specific friend. When my art studio was built, the birds were removed, but my friends and family protested so violently that not only did I repaint the birds, but the banister is wrought iron in the shape of those birds; ergo the name of the studio is “The Bird House”.

Yes, I have a craft room/office and in addition, a craft library in a storage area, a painting supply cupboard and drawers in the garage and yarn/fabric under the stairs. I guess you might say, we have a home in our craft space.

I have a craft room, although my husband calls it the 'crap' room! He doesn't understand my need to create but supports me and appreciates the end products! I find it a constant battle to keep it straight and to refrain from putting 'stuff' in that room because we don't have any other good place for it.

I love my double duty craft room/office. It's the only "girly" room in my house full of males!

Yes, when my son graduated college and moved across country for a job, I encouraged him to take his bedroom furniture. I then made that into my craft room. Like others, the furniture is a bit of a mish mash - the daybed from my younger daughter's room that was replaced when we teen-agifyed her room, a bookcase, the wall shelves that had been in my son's room, a heavy duty folding table and a table for my sewing machine. I'm trying to organize it, but its been difficult due to lack of time and imagination. I sew, knit, needlepoint and am trying to learn to quilt. In addition, I want to use the room for dealing with photos. But I love having everything in a single place! Especially since my "office" has been taken over by my husband and those kids still at home.

My daughter jokes that when she left home I was moving my stuff into her old bedroom before she got out of the driveway. I'm a rubber stamper and love having my own room on the main level instead of down in the dungeon basement. And I stamp a lot more often as a result of the convenience. I mainly make cards and my room also resembles a store with all the supplies I have accumulated.

My family doesn't but we're happy because my son isn't interested in those things, he loves playing outside

So jealous! There's 6 of us in a (small)3 bedroom house. I hate having to get stuff out and put it away each time I want to work on anything.

I learned earlier in life that if you are a "giver" to people, you also need to give to your creative side often...I do in my spare "bedroom" which is now my quilting room and if people come to visit, they get the aerobeds...I live in the desert now and have never been happier with "my space", inside and out!!

When living In Virginia, when my daughter moved out, I set up my sewing room in her old room... It was great. After moving to NC I have yet to unpack most of it... I wasn't motivated. Now that I have made new friends here, and my daughter wants to get back into crafts and quilting, we have restarted the weekly *stitch 'n bitch* with a new group...Sewing, scrapbooking, needle arts, and I want to learn Japanese brushstroke painting... There are only 4 of us currently, but hoping to get a few more in... Hubby is helping me get unpacked and set up... Looking forward to having it up and fully running...

This is my stained glass workshop in our basement. There's not a lot of natural light, but I have plenty of room for all my tools and supplies. I spend a LOT of time down here!!

My husband is in the process of making a room for me. For 26 years I have asked for my own space & I am finally getting it ! As soon as it is finished I will post pictures. I have used some of the ideas from Houzz & adapted them to my space. Room should be finished in about a week, then I begin moving all my things in. Can't wait!!

I am using one of our bedrooms as a craft room. I think it is 12X15 or 13X15. I would love floor to ceiling shelves but am using two large rectangle dining tables, a couple of chest of drawers and the window seat in the bay window to set all the organizer cases. I design jewelry. I am constantly going through all the components, making a mess. I have to organize it over and over again. I plan on going thrifting and see if I can find some tall bookshelves. As it is I waste too much time finding what I need and not seeing enough for the inspiration I'd like.

I have a dedicated crafts area in our unfinished basement. This is not ideal, but there is a lot of space and projects can be left "in process". It's used for card making; scrap booking; gift wrapping; school projects; art work; and genealogy.

Storage consists of two, tall, wooden cabinets that contain rubber stamps, organized in plastic containers by common subjects. In between the two tall cabinets is a lower buffet-like, old, wooden piece of furniture that has two to three compartments/drawers that contain related craft supplies. The top surface holds containers of stamp pads, punches and the like.

There is a small rolling table that is used for the cutting board so it can easily be moved and shared. An old bookcase with slanted shelves contains acid-free photo storage boxes used for photos, ribbon supplies stored by color, projects belonging to each of the grandkids, etc. There are steel shelves nearby that store card stock and scrap book paper organized by colors in plastic containers.

When I bought the house there was an extra, unused (but finished) kitchen counter top in the basement! I bought a sturdy, but inexpensive, television cabinet. Some wood was added to the top to raise it to the right height and attach the big, rectangular counter top to it. It makes a fantastic and very sturdy work surface. An additional table is added to make it even longer, so five or six can work on projects at the same time.

I host my daughter, sis-in-law, nieces and their girls for hobby nights, occasionally. Some scrapbook, one knits, another does genealogy, etc. I will take photos.

Would love to add features to office

My Very Own Craft Room is my current project! It used to be my quarantine period foster kitty room, but I am transforming it. So far I have collected a pink floral fabric covered dress form, a green framed chalk board, a white framed cork board and gathered up the many floral boxes I've saved over the years. An old white vintage screen door, topped with glass, will become my craft table once I buy some legs for it. A bookcase from the loft will be painted white for supply storage. I'll bring my peg board up from the garage, paint it and use it as an inspiration board. I like to scrapbook, decoupage, sew pillows and slipcovers, create greeting cards and want to try new things. Such fun to look forward to.

My craft rooms were just in studs when we bought the house. The 8'x12' room is finished off and painted. It holds my fiber preparation gear and spinning wheel, fiber and yarn. There's a door I can close to keep the flying fiber in there--husband's sensitive to them. I also have a 16' x 32' room where the drywall compound still needs to be sanded and painted. I have two looms, a big dropleaf sewing table and lots of fabric and weaving yarns. There are also cat furniture and exercise machines in it. In one end we have a slider to where a deck would be nice--a great place for me to dye and wash fiber in summer, if we ever build one. For now I can use the deck off the kitchen, which is also good because of the water availability. It took me several years to get it all turned into productive areas but now I am quite happy to have space to do my things.

I have a studio for stained glass. I hope to keep working on getting it right and hope it doesn't get cluttered. Thankful it has a closet.

Yes I have a dedicated room for my craft hobbies in my new room... Before this room I always used my dining table for the purpose and every time feel irritated when I worked on some project and any guest arrive and I became confused what to do... But now I am very happy that I can mess up the room as much as I can ...
Beside this Organisation of different material is so easy.. Now I can arrange each and everything in the lots of cabinets I have in this room

To Janadiane: if you are using a spare bedroom, could you "reinvent" the closet by putting in a closed organizer that would give you shelves and possibly other elements you need?

To Hannah Widlus: Since I have commandeered all the other closets where would my husband put his clothes? I have way too many clothes and slowly am donating them so hopefully a reinvented closet will be in the near future. I hadn't even thought of that so thank you so much. I have extra incentive to get going on that donating. Great idea!

I am fortunate enough to having a studio space in the art district of our city. My favorite space is a little studio area in my home, that was a spare bedroom, about 10x12 ft. I will take some pics soon. I am a mixed media artist and also restore and refinish vintage furniture.

My craft room is not dedicated it has to do 3 things spare room, library and craft room. I have no flair for storage ideas or organization. I would like to see how yarn for crocheting or knitting are stored. Anyone need a challenge my room is it. Have a great day.

Oh yes...I bought a craft room with a house attached, not a house with a craft room! It was originally designed as the 4th bedroom suite with private bath/walk in closet. However it had the option to turn this room into a "game room" or a "media room" where you remove the bathroom/closet and have a large 12'x19' room. The difference between media room and game room was that media room had no windows. The builder got off good because I got no discount for removing a bathroom/closet.

I'm STILL working on the room so forgive the condition. I have LOTS of craft stuff, cleared out at least 10 car loads (and no, I'm not exaggerating...I had the "come and get it" parties and told everyone to come with empty their trunks and leave full). But still, it's barely all fitting in there. So I built in tons of shelves and will cover them with curtains (a suggestion from a previous interior designer and I will say that she was right. Once I put calm curtains over the mess, it really made the space sooo much happier. I bought curtain tracks that I need to hang and I have tons of fabric that I got on clearance to make pretty curtains. I also prefer to use curtains over the fronts of my Ikea "storage units" Many curtains were just white Ikea sheets, but it makes such a difference!

I will also hang some Ikea magnetic boards on the walls. Note that those boards don't work with white board markers (a very bad design issue!). So I had some white board contact paper and will finish covering them with that stuff so that I can use them as white boards. Then, I'll make some "trim" with some scrap booking paper to cover the "seam" (contact paper only comes approx 18" wide and the metal boards are wider) The magnetic boards will be great for magnetic bead storage or just as an idea board or???? :)

I really wanted movable "islands" so that the room could be quickly reconfigured, based on whether I was pinning a quilt or cutting out a garment or knitting or whatever. I think that the larger one ended up a bit too big and I'm planning on lowering the top. I had planned on rolling some of the pieces under the big table so that I could roll them out, in case I needed more table top, but roll them back in to get more floor space. Those units were closet storage units from Ikea, but I think I could put a removable top on it to allow for some leg room and it could make a cute little crafting table for my little crafting buddy when she comes over. Then the bigger one could work for the big girls. :)

The narrow one is two ikea Bestas screwed together with one side of a bifold door as the top. I made it for my plastic knitting machines, but it would also make a great side table.

I had the wooden ladder from the previous house but since the new house has 12' ceilings, I needed some newer ladders. So I "donated" the old one to the craft room to help me get the stuff down from the high shelves. The painting didn't go as well as I thought so I'm now trying decoupage...something that would be quite appropriate for a craft room. :)

It's still a work in progress and I'm still working on unpacking/reorganizing and figuring out how to store my stuff and label it so that I can actually FIND everything I need.

Yes, I used my 4th bedroom, it's great! Art Studio, Office, Library, Sewing Room and more uses. lol. The nice cabinet is from a closed accounting firm. Long file drawer great for storage. [free from Craigslist] . And underneath the cabinet covered with colorful fabric is a cork board with under mount lights. The book shelves are drawers from an old dresser. For a small room its get lots of use.

Yes I do! And it's roomy with tons of storage. We just built our new home and we actually have two studios. My art and jewelry studio (in what was deemed a game room in the original plans), and my hubbies music recording studio (in was originally deemed a media room). Needless to say, we LOVE our new home! : )

Yes, I needed space to make costumes for our local community theater. I've taken over our unused formal living room and I use it every day now!

we're retired, down-sized dramatically, no more craft room : ( now i have a craft closet which is actually working just fine… i had our contractor add shelves and a worksurface to a closet in our shared 'office'.

Yeah! Fortunately we had an extra room in our house :) not sure what else we would have used it for.

I call mine the "office," but it definitely stores much more crafting and decor supplies than office stuff! I have a full-size dining room table for a desk and it makes a wonderful work area for a ton of different things.

My office/studio is dedicated to work and painting - its a 10 x10 spare bedroom with awesome potential and I am making it better every day.

My husband and I are retired. We traded a three bedroom ranch on a suburban lot for a three bedroom chalet-style house on ten wooded acres . I have plenty of craft space. Fiber arts are upstairs in the loft. (Spinning, weaving, and sewing. I do the dyeing outside) Woodworking and metal working are in one of the barns. Those are joint projects my husband and I enjoy. The barn's workshops are now fully functional. I refinish wood furniture I get at yard sales. My husband does everything from horse shoes to hinges and more in metal. He also builds furniture in wood. Last fall he built two tall chests of drawers with shelves up above for our bedroom. I will be staining them when the weather gets warmer. We've been building our own shelving and augmenting the storage capacity in all our buildings since last year, but still have a lot to do in the house. Next project is: bookcases for all our books. Unfortunetly the barns aren't heated and get too cold in winter.

As a matter of fact, I just completed a conversion. After retirement my workout routines changed. I sold my Bowflex and treadmill, then gutted the former "gym" and turned it into half yoga/tai chi studio, 1/4 sewing and 1/4 painting studio. I've had a TON of fun setting it all up, it's almost as much fun as actually working in it!

The yoga half is padded with puzzle-type rubber mats. There's a big screen TV on the wall, and a laptop on the floor by the wall in the middle, and two small high-def TVs on either end. This way I can play yoga videos and see the instructor from whatever weird angle I'm dangling at. I added large mirrors on two walls so I can see what I'm doing wrong. And, of course, big speakers to rock out while I paint.

The sewing corner contains a sewing table with a regular machine, a serger and an embroidery machine. There's a folding cutting table tucked against a wall. I designed my own cutting surface. It's rubber infused with steel particles, so magnets will stick to it. I lay out my fabric and patterns, anchor them with magnets, and no pinning required.

There's another table for flat-surface work like sketching and watercolor. Tucked into a dormer window with great light is an oil painting area. I throw my photo subjects up on the big tv and use that for my "model" while painting. Note that the image on the easel bears very little resemblance to the image on the television. I didn't say I was GOOD at this! :)

The laptop over on the floor of the yoga area is connected to a high definition splitter that duplicates the screen on the big tv and the two smaller tvs. Across the room on the distant end of the sketching table is a wireless keyboard and mouse that I can use standing up and watching the big screen tv as my "monitor".

The next room over is hubby's photo studio, allowing room to spread out for special projects. I've co-opted the photo studio's side of a Hollywood bath for a brush-washing station.

Yes! I have a dedicated craftroom. It is my own private haven. I live in a two bedroom apartment and decided after I placed my bed in the biggest of the bedrooms, that it was just a waste of space. I decided that I would use the smaller bedroom for sleeping and use the biggest room for crafting. I just love how it turned out. I am in the craft room way more than the sleeping room. My furniture, accessories and storage items came from Ikea, Michaels, Hobby Lobby and Wal-Mart. My old
machines were gifts from my daughters. I love my space

Just built a new house and I got to close off the tandem part of our garage into a 10x12 room. Only downside is no windows so I had to get a chandelier with lots of daylight bulbs for lighting. Low budget so I went with garage storage shelves. It really helps me stay organized. used restaurant sink, prep table, and tiled the wall myself to make it look more 'professional / installed'. Still working on it, I have 4 shelves I'm putting up between sink wall and long storage wall just to tie it all together.

Good morning everyone. I need some advice please. I have recently claimed a spare bedroom to become a studio for crafts that I plan on selling. I have a job this will be more of a side hussle at first until I can build up a following to do this fulltime. The space is 16 x 16 with a reach in closet. My question is should I use shelving for organization or built ins as I can affford it? I plan making Christmas crafts such as wreaths, tree skirts, ornaments, table runners, monogrammed napkins, quilts, table cloths, decorated garlands, and stockings. I plan on having an online boutique store and attend craft shows .

I have a desk for sewing, a conference table for a cutting or craft table, a peg board, a drawer unit for patterns which is under 1/2 of the cutting table, and in the closet I have both hanging space and shelf space... I also have an IKEA wardrobe with shelves, and 3 drawers at the bottom... I stack my craft organizers of wreath & craft bits on the closet shelves...

it has to be something that works for you... make it personal to your work and organizing style... what works for others may not work for you...
