Garden Level Flooring

I have a 4 level split home. We are remodeling the garden level ( half above and half below ground level.). It will be a family room and mini kitchen. I had hoped to save the Berber carpet but it is too damaged. I plan to sell within a year or two and don't want to put a great deal of money into flooring. Would you choose flexible plank flooring, inexpensive carpet or something else to the floor and stairs?

This is vinyl plank flooring. I know, crazy! It has gotten so much better in the last year or so. I ordered some samples a couple weeks ago. The look is there 100 percent. The feel is a bit plastic-y but who is going to be down on their hands and knees feeling your floor?

I am planning on this being my Plan B if my Plan A isn't workable.

One of the pros here that posts a lot has it in her living and dining rooms and she likes it because she has a bunch of dogs and it wears like iron.
