Forget the crown moulding, lose one of the dressers, and hey, maybe lose the boyfriend too! You'll need to decide what the wall color needs to go with before you can select the right one. So are you keeping the existing bedding or yearning for something else? Tell us what color the bedding will be or what colors you truly want in the room and perhaps we can help you.

One thing I would definitely do is turn the mirror so that it is in a vertical position. It will give added height to the room, well at least visually. Another thing you need to do is clear up the mess of perfumes/cosmetics you have on the dresser! Add a table lamp to the dresser, a slender one.

lol...thank you I wasn't thinking...just I'm a lil messy lately because I'm starting to not care. So sorry, but the sheets are clean! I thought the mirror should stretch across the dresser but I will consider that. Bedding can always be changed, I have many different quilts, light summer, but they all match the blue and I suppose will match most paint colors. BF..hmm believe me I've thought of that a lot over the past eight years (and the 10 before that lol) Part of the problem is def the two dressers but he needs one and so do I ;( I know I'm asking a lot. But Thank you Carolyn.

How about this?

You could pick a quilt and show it to us and then we can stun you with our brilliant ideas...but just for the sake of this discussion, we'll say that the quilt is blue and green and yellow.

So, we'll paint your walls a pale yellow, place the quilt on the bed, and add a green throw. Then we'll acquire shams in any of these colors to cover your bed pillows. We'll send you to school to learn how to make a bed and you will live happily ever after! With or without the boyfriend.

Or you can tell us more about what you really want, and we'll deal with it tomorrow.

Lol, Carolyn I don't know whether to reach thru this pc and punch you or laugh (I choose laugh)...you are very upset it seems about an unmade bed and for that I am sorry; I suppose too, that you are right I should have made the bed. I'll make the bed tomorrow and repost...it already has a new cover on it because the weather changed here and I really stopped liking that comforter. I've never ever risked showing my home but I did so on a whim..the unmade bed never even occurred to me...till you mentioned. I realize this room is a challenge because all of the bedrooms on this site are large, spacious and from much more expensive homes than mine. By the way, yellow is one of my least favorite wall colors. In fact, whenever I buy paint I ask if any yellow will go in the mix because I am so sensitive to that color on walls...I don't know why. Also, think of it this way Carolyn, when I finish this shamble of a room, it definitely will be a hit because at the very least, it will be clean, freshly painted, have some nice furnishings and perhaps a vertically hung mirror. Thanks again...whew I never defended myself so much before...lol

My goodness! If you make your bed (no matter the color or design) and remove the mess off the dresser your bedroom will instantly feel "Updated" and feel like a new design! A basket with a lid may help you hide the toiletries quickly. Is this the dresser/mirror you are keeping? I like Carolyn's pale yellow wall color, or maybe a wheat type color. Let's pick the bedding first. Please show us a photo of your favorite quilt.

Oh yes to rotating the mirror and add a lamp.

ok Darzy! I feel like a lil kid and I'm a grandmother of four! Maybe there's no hope for me...Don't give up though, this is fun Playing with the pros! I'm going to make the bed tomorrow, I already cleared off the dresser and, no, I am not keeping the current furniture in the room....they are all yard sale finds (not extremely rich). I found a fairly nice set on CL .. I would have said very nice but obviously tastes differ a lot on here. I actually put the "toiletries" in the closet so they will mostly go away. Gracey999 - You said that you've cycled through a number of colors and none of them have worked for you -- dark blue, a reddish, greenish, coral. Maybe you just need a lighter shade? Benjamin Moore paints show the light reflecting value (LRV) for each of their colors -- the higher the value, the lighter the color. I always fall in love with the deep rich colors, but once they are on my walls the room feels gloomy. Once I discovered that these deep rich colors have a LRV of 35 to 50 I learned to go for the lighter tints on the card - the ones with the LRVs of 60 - 75. Although these colors can look pale on the color chip, once I've covered all 4 walls the color stills feels rich without being overwhelming, and I have the light I crave. Good luck with your project. Just pulling out that old carpet and exposing the wood floors will make a big difference.

It will be fun! Keep the old shoe and we'll decorate with him in mind too. :)

Btw.please don't buy the beige microfiber headboard yet. Let's get the whole picture and design goal in mind first. You may find the headboard won't work with your bedding style and furniture.

You could always paint your dresser white for a cheap face lift. It'd match the headboard, but I'd pick the paint color and general color scheme before you buy the headboard. Good luck.

Okay Pros and designers I made my bed and I posted the quilts that I have on hand. As you will see most any wall color will go, therein lies my problem. it's not so much the bedding as the walls in general...such a small room. The headboard I was choosing is beige and it's by Ashley...very nice, I'll find it and post I will also post the bedroom set which all match (new for me.) I do appreciate your advise, I felt so good last night when I went to bed...like there was hope so thank you.

I will probably go lighter. Darzy I may rethink the bed but I definitely want a cushiony headboard...that's a must. Thanks again ladies for all your help and advise. Gracie, one thing you and almost hub (does he have a name we can call him?) need to do before settling on the final wall color, is to pick up a sample jar of each color that you think is a possibility. You can start with one or two or three.

You'll need to equip yourselves with cheap sponge brushes and large poster boards because it's now time to make samples. Hey, I forgot to mention that you'll also need masking tape. So paint two coats of the each paint color on the poster boards, and tape the boards up in various parts of the room, looking at the colors day and night, in daylight and lamplight. Soon your favorite will sing out to you, on key I hope!

Only when you're sure that you LOVE the color should you buy enough to paint the walls!
And then the paint should have a "flat" finish, at least on the walls, and the white trim should be semit-gloss.

We'd also like to see the furniture you found on CL. Usually we designers, who can really be quite difficult to get along with, do not like a complete matching set of bedroom furniture. However, you have won great points with us by your desire to have an upholstered headboard, something that will break up the monotony of a matched set! Kudos to you for seeing that that is what is needed, Gracey!

Oh, so funny you should say that Carolyn. If you could see my walls right now there are about 8 different colors that I painted around frames, mirrors and blank spaces! Andrew, well, everyone calls him Drew (except me), the almost hub, thinks we should keep that, he thinks it's artistic...lol. And, thank you for the compliment re the bedroom set. I've always had mismatched furniture so I thought I try a matching set...but I decided not to buy the headboard when I found this. (Actually she wanted 900 then 800 and I got the set minus the headboard for 400...I thought it was a great Raymour and Flannigan steal :) I have tons of paint supplies so I should be good with that. Since I'm doing it myself, I wouldn't hold out for perfection, but I've painted the walls throughout my home many many times so it will at least be passable (certainly no Candice Olsen, which is who you remind me of.) The almost hub will have absolutely nothing to do with it...He'll go for anything. In fact, he'd rather pay someone but I like doing things myself. Update soon (I hope) to come.
