Kalwall is an insulated, translucent roof / wall system with layers of fiberglass that allow varying amounts of insulation and light transmittance. The look like contemporary shojis. They are used primarily for commercial projects because each system is custom made and the company had a 200 sf minimum size.

I used it for a residential project back in the 90's to create a sky-lit "street" that ran through a dark, Sea Ranch style house that had been originally designed by Charles Moore. I extended the skylight out over the front door to create a covered porch, and sandblasted patterns in the new front doors to repeat the geometric forms of the Kalwall panels

I am sure that looked amazing. We have a lot of grey weather here on Vancouver Island and the idea of having that feel of light all the time would really be amazing I would want to do my whole roof in it.
