Is everyone painting their cabinets white?
I am so sick of white kitchens. Give me beautiful wood cabinets any day.

    I love white kitchens. Timeless.

Very nice design. Too bad about the awkward corner details on the full overlay cabinets. I'm just being picky, but it's one of my pet peeves. Inset cabinetry is so much more architecturally elegant.

Are those floors wood or tile? If tile, what brand did you use?

It is beautiful! Love it! Ignore the haters.

Your lovely new white kitchen is much more appropriate for your 1920's home than the modern flat panel wood cabinets (though those would be nice in a different context).

Debbie George, just so you know, I have waited 10 yrs to put in this kitchen in our home. After visiting a beautiful villa and some other hotels in Italy, I fell in love with white marble and classic white country kitchen & baths, but I wanted to incorporate some contemporary details (such as the lighting and chairs). My entire house has the old bones with contemporary furnishings.. it's just what I love. I never did it to be "trendy". In fact, I don't even this it is a trendy kitchen.

Hi marfenster, the counter stools are from www.artefac.com
  • 12 years ago
don't worry about Debbie George :) I like wood too but doesn't mean I don't like white kitchens. So I ended up uppers white and lowers medium Cherry to compromise :D
I'm getting a marble like Quartz made by Viatera Minuet http://www.lgviaterausa.com/products/16/187 It looks better in person, I have seen it in 12x12 and also have a 3x3 at home.
What backsplash material did you go with? I'm thinking to go with marble 3x6 tiles

Thank, diyher. Yup, that's what I used for my backsplash.. from Lowe's. Good luck with your reno too!

Your photos make it clear why you needed the much lighter cabinets. They really brighten your kitchen up. It's beautiful. I have dark wood floors and I'm going light with cabinets too.

I love warm wood colors in the original kitchen and I love white kitchens too so either one works. The difference is I like the new island better because now it's more functional since it can be used as an actual island/table. Nice.

wow, Lowes? for Viatera Minuet ? or for the Calacatta Gold marble tiles? :) We have a fabricator across from Lowes that cuts and installs the Viaterra

    the backsplash tiles..

I'll have to check out Lowes then :) see if their prices are any better

Your kitchen is fabulous! Love the stove area. I'm in the middle of remodelling mine, nice to see someone come out on the other side with such a great result! It is a daunting task but love where you got your inspiration :-)

Renee your kitchen is gorgeous! You must love sitting in this bright space every day and thank yourself for the patience of waiting all this time to finally have your dream kitchen. To Debbie George for adding such a negative comment to someone who is obviously excited and proud of their new kitchen : My mother always said....if you have nothing nice to say, say nothing!!!! What is the point of leaving a comment like that!

I love it, so much more uplifting than the dark wood.
