You almost have the pieces hung in the shape of a fish. The two pictures are the odd things in the grouping. If you have or could go purchase two small mirrors and hang where the photos are.

I think your mirror should be centered on the wall by it self to hit the center of the table and the chandelier. It will then reflect your chandelier. Can you post a picture of the wall with your dining room chest as well as standing further back so we could see the entire opening in the wall. Want to find room for your fish plates.

Dear Delraybeach, Your balance for the grouping is off which is what you are feeling uncomfortable about. Select a color out of the rug, looks like you may have a green. Paint the room in that color or at least the wall. Take away the two framed art pieces. Divide the fish on either side of the mirror. If only one large plate then add two small fish. The weight should visually feel balanced not just by the plate shape but weight of art color and size within the plates. Balance it out on the floor first, then transfer to the wall.

Thank you for your feedback. I greatly appreciate it. As will see from the picture that I just added it's the only other wall in the room. The house has an open floor plan and the dining and living room are a combined space.

id agree with changing paint color, but would remove mirror and two framed pieces from this wall. with candlesticks, pass-thru to kitchen, and all else there seems to be some indecision (read:chaos). can the mirror and art go elsewhere? fish thingees are interesting, and they are not a repeat "shape" of the kitchen window. also, if you purchased them as art,then feature them as art, independently. as they are currently displayed, they don't hold their aesthetic value.

I think the fish are too crowded and they are also crowding the mirror. Take down the framed art and try putting the fish on both sides of the mirror with more space on either side if the mirror and between the fish.

Take down the two small art pieces and spread the fish around to both sides of the mirror.

Put the green glass vase (that is now on the floor) up next to the blue one. Probably need to move the shells and coral to make room.

My photos were taken a few weeks ago when I was staying at my home in Florida. I removed the candlesticks from the table before I left to come back up north. I'm headed back in a couple of weeks and will make the other changes. Thank you so much!

From the image, it appears there are 7 plates of two different sizes and different colors. I rearranged them in what appeared to be the most balanced way. Perhaps arrange them a bit closer together. Unfortunately, I couldn't find a good home for fishee number 7.....

The wall was a deep blue but I recently repainted it (Abalone by BM) to match the other main living space. I would really like an accent wall but I can't seem to find a shade of blue or green that compliments the grey. I'm attaching another photo that shows more of the space. Any suggestions for a color for the wall will be greatly appreciated!

I like the fish playing off the rug pattern. I agree with centering the mirror with the table. Try leaving the three larger blue fish in a vertical column on right, and move the four smaller fish to a parallel column on the left. Cute chairs too.

There are 7 fish plates; 3 large, 2 medium and 2 small. Two of the 3 large are duplicates. I originally purchased 6 and then went back to purchase the 7th plate (odd number looked better). Unfortunately the store only had 1 left which was the same as one I had already purchased. They are really quite lovely and more attractive in person then in the photo.

Any additional feedback? Should I paint the wall an accent color??? I think the light brown rattan chairs and the reclaimed wood mirror are too pale together. I live at the beach so I thought they would go well in my coastal home. Should I purchase different chairs????

I agree with what others have said...remove the two small framed art pieces. LOVE the fish plates, they are very interesting. I would just do an arrangement of the plates and mirror. I like the way you have them hung, they just may be too crowded.
For a coastal home, I like light colors. It's difficult to tell your paint color in the picture. Is it just a warm white? If so I would leave it.
I like your table and chairs for a coastal home.
Is the rug big enough? Do you have at least 1.5', or even better, 2' on all sides for the chairs to be pulled out and still on the rug?

I agree with Keitha on painting accent wall the color of your entertainment hutch. Otherwise, what are the colors in the rug? I personally like abalone color throughout but a good linen color or aqua would look nice too .

I'd start by simply removing the small pictures on the left from the wall and moving the mirror to centre with the table. Leave the fishes where they are, and see how that looks.

The paint color is Abalone ( a very pale grey) by Benjamin Moore. The other colors in the living room/ dining room are pale blues to turquoise and apple green.
Yes, the rug is plenty large. When the chairs are pulled from the table you still have about 18 inches. When up to the table about 24 inches.
Do you think I should leave the wall the same color or paint it a blue or green? It was a bright teal color, but I hated it. I tend to like more soothing colors. I'm looking for a color that will coordinate well with my other furnishings. Maybe a very soft turquoise ( matching our armoire which we turned into our bar).
Thoughts and ideas on the paint from all is appreciated!!

You have a large expanse of white on the ceiling. Painting that a sky blue is a good way to add some color and allow for more neutral walls.

Try the fish in an arc over the mirror. Start in the middle of the mirror and go up and over. Might be more interesting.

Although my chairs are relatively new, I think it would be best to replace them with an upholstered chair in a soft grey or beige or wood painted in a soft shade of blue or green.
I love the white chairs ,but wonder if they would work well with my other wood pieces in the dining/living room. My taste for this home is electric but more coastal with a slight cottage look.

Jillian and Keitha I also think painting the accent wall the color of my armoire (bar) is a good choice. The color is soft, soothing beachy and I don't think I will tire of the color! My only concern is the fish are orange, yellow, navy and turquoise.
Do you think the blue will work well with the fish? All of the plates have a beige background with a different type of fish in one of those colors.
The rug is beige, apple green and 3 shades of blue.

I would also simplify some of the other decor in the room. I'd remove everything from the top of the china cabinet, and also remove the decorative items on the china cabinet wall, as well as the vases on the floor. There's a bit too much going on, especially with the patterned carpet.

agree that the mirror should be moved to reflect the chandelier. I'd arrange the fishes in a fish-shaped oval to the right of the mirror, as if they were a school of fish swimming. And maybe, for a light-hearted look, have one of the smallest fishes trailing along a bit behind.

Think you would get more of that beach feel if you replace the rug in the living room with a simple sisal. Those two patterned rugs so close together sort of compete.

Agree with Partim that you should take away a few of the small decorative items. Read once, "A room is done when there is nothing else left to take away."

My first thought was to center the mirror on the table... I even thought that if you slide your table to the right; before you went ahead with it, you could see how well it will work. But if you do that; your light will come down over the mirror, blocking it's view. I would recommend pulling the mirror to the right, and then introducing the fish on the left. Consider leaving one to two fish off, because it does look a titch crowded. I like that you chose an odd number of them, it does seem more natural that way. I would not change the paint color, you are looking for a softer feel; in that case, less may be more.
