Beautiful existing wood, but I want tromp l'oiel panels...paint white

I just bought a 100 year old Tudor and it has beautiful original wood throughout the living room and dining room. We close in a week so I don't have the best pictures yet but these should give a good idea. I would like to do the tromp l'oiel panels in the dining room but that would mean painting the wood. Is that terrible? I would leave the pocket doors as is and the living room would remain the same but I'm curious if it's so terrible to paint it all in the dining room? The kitchen was previously painted white and there is a sun room in a different area of the home where the base boards were also painted white.
