What you have planned sounds great! What I noticed first was the light fixture/fan is not really adding anything to your dining room. How about changing that out with a beautiful new one that hangs down a bit lower? More of a chandelier style? Also, your mirror seems to add a lot of light and makes that corner cheery. Maybe add another one or a larger one somewhere to lighten up the room even more.

Could you do a rough floorplan of the dining room with what you want to put in there and where the doors and windows are?

I really like your dining table and the antique dresser. With the light grey walls, light floors and the color of the table base, it almost feels Scandinavian. Is this a look you like? I agree with rawketgrl, start with the few revisions you were talking about, or at least painting the paneling. Then remove all the pieces you are considering getting rid of, and take new photos. It will give you more of a clean slate, and it will be easier to create a new look from, rather than having your old pieces conflict with new ideas.

Also, you mentioned wanting the room to have blue, green, and fuschia accents, but the only color I heard you mention was gray. How do you plan on incorporating those colors, and how much color do you want in the room?

Find some photos that communicate the style you want to achieve and post those as well. That will give us better direction on how to make suggestions that speak to you.

The chairs and window treatments you choose will make a big difference in the style of your space, but I'm not sure if you want to stick to the casual cottagey style you currently have, or if you're trying to go for something new.

Madden: Scandinavian is EXACTLY what I'm talking about!! Thank you, no other word besides eclectic described my taste until you said that. Yes! I like to mix cold and warm. I also enjoy a little industrial accents here and there. Clean and Cozy. That hit the nail on the head. Anyway, I love the Desk Idea with the airy fabric making things look a little more hidden. I'm building a table to go over a dog crate in my living room that will have the curtain to hide the ugly crate part. I can't believe I didn't think of that for the desk. Keesee: The reason I am painting the grey is to have a clean neutral to have freedom with. I plan to have a few shiny metal accents, such as a fruit bowl, and also probably to paint a picture with all of those colors to really draw them all together. It sounds SO dumb, but I drew my inspiration from a silver necklace with blue, green, and fucsia stones. I may also paint my chairs one of those colors, or find a nice colorful curtain. I've been thinking about removing the top of my table and putting it on a metal frame to kind of go with the clean, grey. Also, backsplash in my kitchen will soon be stamped tin. WHat would you suggest? Those colors aren't set in stone for me besides the gray walls. I may change my mind with the perfect curtain or painting.

I think that could all work really well, Angelina. And don't think it's silly to get inspiration from a necklace - a good designer can pull inspiration from anywhere! I would just spend time looking for that one piece that speaks to you. Find the piece that kicks off your color scheme, then let us help you from there.

The more you start putting the room together, or flushing out your inspiration, the easier it is to make an impact with suggestions. I just wouldn't want to steer you away from what you love, simply because I don't know what you're looking for. Even if it's just working on an ideabook for your dining room, that can still help define your style and narrow what you're looking for.

Here is another great idea to pretty up file cabinets using wallpaper samples and modge podge, but you could use fabric or wrapping paper, etc... I also like the way this designer stayed with all white for her organizing materials.

I like the idea Madden posted about decorating your filing cabinets so they become part of your room decor, rather than something to be down-played. Of course, covering them with a curtain / drape beneath the desk would have a similar effect. Either way, I love the mix of pattern and the distressed chair in the photo they posted.

Maybe you could use your seating to incorporate the industrial accents you prefer?

Warner: Blue glass is so pretty! I already have many blue accents. I'm naturally drawn to blue things, haha. My biggest issue is finding fucsia accents. I did see a cool vase that was fucsia one time, but I'm really not sure what to put in vases, because flowers make my husband sneeze, so I can't keep them inside. :( I'd also prefer a vase filler that isn't a dust trap. That is really cute. Ikea has some great chairs that look a lot like that. I got this picture off the Ikea website - don't know why my name is on it. They come in black, walnut and green. An expandable table like this might be worth a second look too.

If you look around your room long enough, you can always find things to colorize. The trick is balancing those bright, bold colors and enough neutrals to give the eye rest. Your grays will help break up the bright pops. And once you've decided you have enough pink, use the same concepts to decide where you want greens and blues. Window treatments, fabrics, and art are an easy way to bring color in too. Remember you can always mix your colors together in one piece!

Angelina..............I took a look at your idea book - hope you don't mind - and you already have a very good idea of what you want and very good taste. Take your time and don't think you have to have the "big" picture all figured out right now. Start with the wall paint as suggested and then just let the room develop.
