How thick are the limestone chips and what was used underneath?

    The limestone chips are called #9's from any quarry, less than 1/2" in size. The base is #57 gravel six inches deep for drainage.

    thanks. so i can be clear, inside the border ring i would dig down 6.5 inches... 6 for gravel and .5 for the chips? or am i missing something? thanks for the help.

    I am actually thinking about river rock instead of limestone.
