From old and slightly tired commode to Swedish look

I purchased this old and slightly scuffed mahogany commode from the auction house for just $110. The insides were in very good shape. I needed something for the entrance, where I could hide a couple of shoes, scarves and gloves. I sanded it and painted it, with a finishing touch of sanding for aged appearance. What do you all think? Was it worth it?

It turned out great! The white really brightens it up and you can't beat that price!

Thanks to all of you commenting and approving of my work. I am not finished yet though.

I bought this antique bench a couple of years earlier and I find the gold a bit pretentious. I wanted to submit it to the same treatment. Any thoughts on that would be highly appreciated.

I think it would be lovely painted white. Are you going to reupholster the cushion as well? Is that cane I see on the sides?

@collijay, The bench has can on the seat and on the sides. The cushion I bought separately and can change the cover easily. I'll try to get another picture of the bench without the cushion when I get a chance later today.

Here is the photo of the bench without the cushion. I hope it will be easy to remove the gold colour and also that there is no lead in the paint.
