The first thing I would do is get rid of the blue color. I would draw a color from the stone front and either go lighter or darker and paint above the garage. I would get a new carriage garage door. A rich khaki for all trim keeping only the white on the window sashes. The two vertical wood trim pieces would go or if stationary I would paint them to blend in with the stone. A beautiful glossy black door or anything that causes a statement. New landscaping.

As far as the landscaping...I think all the greens out front need to go. Looks like they have been neglected & someone finally trimmed them up & they're all legs now!

@bungalowmo yes you're 100% correct about the front lawn being neglected. Same goes for the back yard. The twisty conifers idea is a good one. I will try to mock something up to get a sense of how it would look.

I would keep a touch of black on the house somewhere. Paint the front door. The white fades into the surround. Black stands out.

Although the conifers are nice and I even thought of them but they are too busy and not as classy as the plain traditional landscaping used in the Kennett Square home. Too large urns filled with seasonal greens or flowers.

The siding over the garage could be a taupe to blend in with the stone. Have a look at bluenan's attached pic, Trueblood Custom to see color suggestion for this siding. Gorgeous home and with the right colors and especially new landscaping will be fantastic. Also like bluenan's suggestion for front door and shutter color for your home.

I love this site! So many good suggestions. Trueblood Custom is a great example of colors that would work for this house. I'm still trying to decide between a darker charcoal vs charcoal brown for the shutters and door.

What is a good application to use to create a mockup of the diff color options.

Sherwin Williams has a color visualizer on their site. Take a look at seal skin as a possibility for shutters and door.

Your soon to be home is beautiful and offers much potential. I find the landscape rendering a bit busy - it hides the beauty of your home's facade. I would offer that changing out the front door with either a Dutch style or other craftsman type would enhance the exterior. I also do not believe that the shutter color must be limited to earth tones or hues found in the stone. Much luck,

We love that stone! As for boosting up the curb appeal you should looking into some of the great landscaping ideas above. The front door also gets a bit lost. Possibly painting it to match the shutters/garage or painting it a dark color so it stands out because right now it is getting lost with the trim. We not crazy about the white siding. It really brings the beauty of the house down. Maybe changing it to something tan or a color to compliment the stone. Check out a color visualizer such as the one from Sherwin Williams or Certainteed. @bluenan has the right idea above with the third house they provided.

The drawing is just a starting point use as a visual reference . We can reduce the shrubs add color , shutters and refine it to perfection. That's what's so good about Houzz you could add these ideas to the drawing and wind up with literally a clear picture , image of the project.

I think I'd paint the dormer windows so they blend into the stone better - they're the first thing you notice. Put the focus on the entry below and clear away the hulking shrubs that are blocking up the doorway.

I agree with most of the above comments, but I do like the turquoise color and it is rather traditional for stone buildings, esp. in France. I would paint the siding of the addition a tan or greige type color, and the front door first (glossy black), and the turquoise could look great as it is, and a little unusual. Or if you go more traditional and go with black, green black or charcoal grey shutters, a turquoise door could look great, or maybe yellow or something a little less traditional. Of course red or nearly any other color could work as well.

A very subtle paint scheme for the door surround might be nice. It has great detail, but all that bright white paint just flattens it out. The goal is to have it so subtle that few notice that it is actually different colors--just different whites can work. And it looks like the storm is cutting off view of an interesting door--a full-view to match or frame the door would be better, or a custom wood storm. I think it would be worth it to strip the paint from this area to reveal the detail and to ensure that the wood (especially above the pediment) is in good shape, Adding a nice door knocker and doorknob, maybe a kickplate, could be the finishing touch, someday.

I hope you are having someone look at the roof. All that moss or whatever could be a sign of major problems. Looks to be a great house circa 1930s - 40s or so.

Yes we had the roof inspected. No evidence of damage was found. But its need of serious cleaning to get rid of all that moss. Sad how much the exterior was neglected by the owners.

Would you suggest removing the screen door especially after painting the main door?

The biggest change would be to remove the ancient shrubs. Then remove the shutters for a few weeks and see how it looks. Get the whole thing pressure washed and deal with whatever led to the moss growth on the roof. Consider painting the downspouts a medium tan or light gray, whatever would make them blend in with the stone.

Consider planting the front with lots of annuals this year while you deal with painting and general clean-up of the exterior. A good landscape design can emerge after you have been there a year or so.

What a beautiful home. I would recommend finding a highly skilled Landscape Designer in your area. A designer will listen to your wants and needs and come up with a design unique to your home. It will add curb appeal and most definitely increase the value of your home. A design typically runs from $300- $450.

As an interior/exterior designer, I sub-contracted Tony out for my 1st time, to offer me 7 different colour choice renderings for a building that was going under paint construction. Tony not only had available colours that matched my preferred choices, but implemented them beautifully in 2D. He is extremely patient and went over and beyond his expected duties. He instigated communication over the phone and email when clarification was needed. Unbelievable professional service and product. I will definitely consult with him again for future projects, even interior ones. A wonderful man.

siding ontop of garage: beige
shutters and garage door: black
front door: turquoise

trim those shrubs way down and plant colorful seasonals in front of them Paint shutters white or black. Paint addition beige-ish. Pressure wash the stone front, and everything else! Add a small tree to the front yard. Consider a curving walkway to The front door. Replace storm door with full glass door. Add two, good-sized front entry lights. Very nice house you have there!

oh, and the white downspouts on the front of the house are distracting. Paint them a neutral color so they diminish.

Shutters and font door:
I like the black shutters in your mock up and wonder if you could do a mock up with a black front door. I think your home is so classic it needs a stately door color.

Siding:
The beige looks better, and I know mock ups don't represent the exact huge of a color, I think a tad darker beige or more of a taupe, a shade from the stone.

Trim:
Antique white, BM Dove white or cream trim looks really nice with taupe and you might consider your white front door surround in that as well as window trim.

Like the idea from kmkane to paint your downspouts in something to make them diminished as well as large black colonial lighting.

Your mock-up looks too busy to me, there are a lot of colors going on. For a classic exterior like yours, a more subtle and understated look would be more sophisticated.

I think the Everything Beautiful mock up is too busy - it makes the house look like its in drag! Not crazy about the aqua blue door, but everything else looks rather stately and appropriate to me

I agree with those like bluenan recommending subtle colors that draw from your beautiful stone--creamier trim and charcoal shutters and door--and classic landscaping. This is not a house style that will benefit from being tarted up with bright colors and Edward Scissorhand topiary.

Hmm, I actually prefer it the way it is now looking at the renderings. Perhaps keeping the large addition white is the best after all, or you could go more grey, maybe even darkish grey, a la house of seven gables, for something totally different, and keep the window trim and garage door dark as well. It would be best to paint all the siding all around the house, if you did.

If I did turquoise on the front door, I would use a different storm and go with a far less vibrant color, perhaps closer to pale aqua.

danienick - could you post a close up of the front door. with the screen door both opened and closed? You've got some nice detail there that could be played with, not in bright colours mind you, but using subtle ones, I think you can focus on the entry and make it stunning

I agree about dark gray for the addition. love the idea of turquoise accents! For the front door definitely, but I would do a softer turquoise than the rendering. Also, I would do the door surround dark, possibly sherwin williams black fox? That would look good on the addition as well as all trim. I would simply remove the shutters, and then plant ivy to trellis up the home. Would look like a french farm house. charming! Landscaping, I would go less structured, more romantic garden. Rose bushes, hydrangeas etc. The manicured bushes would look better in front of a modern house. I would line the pathway with flowers or lavender bushes. Please keep us posted!

I like the muted turquoise in these last 2 photo posts. I get the idea that danienick was going for with the turquoise door, I just think that particular shade is a little too bright.
