Hello, I actually like the carpet and think it could work in the space. I'd pick a warm neutral colour like BM Linen or White Dove. As for curtains I'd go with matching panels on the window and sliding door. Something in a colour close to the wall. I'd love to see some more pictures of the room to help you with furniture placement...but I would suggest you flip the two chairs over to where you currently have the single chair.

I would keep the rug and put my money into wide plantation shutters having the ones on the slider installed so that one section slides over the other.

That single chair is my husband's "man chair" that he insists on having there.! :-)
