The best way to draw attention to the height of your ceilings would be to place the rod as high as possible. In this room, placing it right under the crown molding allows the curtain panels to create the illusion of higher ceilings. If your room has low ceilings and you have no crown molding, you would take the rod to the very top of the wall. Be careful not to allow the drape to lift off the floor. Rule of thumb, it needs to hit the floor or break at the floor. Never let them float off the finished floor, they will look like poorly hemmed pants. Good luck.
