Hi gianolam -- If that is to be hubby's office then I'd find somewhere else to put the poppies and work off of the rest of the things you already have to bring it together.

The rug is great, and the black and brown items must stay, so that gives you a starting point, which is every tone in your rug and floor plus the black and brown of your furniture. Painting the murphy bed black would give you black furniture overload, so instead I suggest bringing a bit of the brown around the room, as shown with the example of a new lampshade and a few art pieces found in a quick web search -- you'd choose your own, keeping his interests and this color palette in mind.

I'd take a color from the rug onto the walls:

Can you switch the black filing cabinet and side table with lamp? If the wall space permits, it makes sense to put the office furniture side by side when the bed is down. The table and lamp for guests.

I would add a shelf unit over the newly positioned filing cabinet to catch all the spare books, potted plant, vase etc and keep top surfaces clear.

If I am a guest in this space I would like to be able to view the picture (or an bigger one) on the wall opposite the bed.

Thank you for the great ideas! The other side of the room, across from the wall bed is a closet. I painted Ben Moore's Gray Owl samples around the room and I think it will really brighten up the space. Do not like my current drapes, so will want to replace those, as well.
Still open to any ideas...
