HI - I would paint the walls all one color -- no wainscoting just all one color -- dividing the walls in half with a wainscoting just shortens a room and makes it look old fashioned . I would also put full doors on that TV wall . Mount the TV on the wall and get rid of the stand and install shelves under that space . Then all closed in behind doors will give the room a nice neat clean look. And the darker blue fabric would be great for drapes and if the walls were painted the same blue color and then accents like the drape rods and trims and the bookcase doors all in the white. This would give the room a nice fresh up to date look.

Yes, we have definitely discussed painting the back panels the same color. I was just concerned that all that gray may seem drab. I would love to move that TV and the horrible stand!!! I am trying to convince my husband of that, but not sure where would we move it.

It sounds like you are not opposed to somewhat dramatic changes to the built in. If you are looking for a way to make the tv less obvious and make the built in be a focal point or area of your home that stands out, perhaps try turning it into an entertainment/storage area like the one in these pictures.

The hardware for the sliding doors allows for any type of door you want and it creates a beautiful and functional way to have the built in be storage only when you want, and a space for the tv when you want.

@PostFrameAssessories where can we find sliding door hardware??? We love this idea and would love to use some old doors from the old farm house on our property. Some of the doors have glass panels half way down them; some are solid/ plain wooden.
