Help needed. How can I make this living room work?

I have been having a dilemma with this living room. Its a sucken living room off of the dining room. I am happy with how the dining area turned out with the coffee bar etc but I have been having trouble making this red chair work in this living room. Please help ! any suggestions to help fix this living room would be great. what works? what doesnt work? What type of area rug? I also have another cream chair should I use that instead of the red one?
