If a neutral palette is your direction, it's a good start. Maybe a bit more color for sofa pillows and artwork. If you want a more dramatic statement to the room, pump it up with a colorful patterned rug and draw colors from it for pillows, accessories and art. Or just add brights in other areas in the room to work with the current rug choice. Color on the coffee table and window treatments.

The rug is a nice neutral color, perhaps some black & white artwork for the walls to tie in with the clean and airy feeling.

The rug needs to turn the other way so it's parallel to the fireplace. I think you also need a furniture rearrangement. After you turn the rug, pull the sofa off the wall so there's enough room to walk behind it from the door. Then square up the chair or try it on the other side so it faces the windows if there's enough space.
