For starters, looks like former owners had an area rug and the windows have caused sun fade on the floors that weren't under the rug. You probably don't want to refinish the floors so match the rug's size and get those windows covered with some of the new hi-tech UV filtering window film. Lined, insulated drapes you can close in the brightest time of the day will help too. The rug, if not totally neutral, would be where I'd start with a colorway. You could start with a piece of art to kick off the color selection if you like. All the furniture and kitchen cabinets are making that end of the space look heavy and unbalanced, so plan to pull the furniture toward the FP side of the room.
