First off, you are spot on in your thoughts about a glass tile not working with your style kitchen. Changing the hardware could reduce the country look a bit and allow you to use a more modern looking glass tile but to do it right, you should probably replace appliances and countertops as well. If that's not in the budget, best to stay away from the more sleek, modern touches in this room.

As far as your decision to go with white tiles, I would urge you to reconsider. Your countertops look to be white, along with your cabinets as well. Your backsplash is the perfect opportunity to introduce a little color and depth to the room. You don't have to go crazy with fire engine red or a bright orange tile but I'd suggest you look into a color. A pastel blue like the image attached would be good or an olive green would work too. Just be sure to use the accent color elsewhere in the room a well like the window treatments, artwork, light fixtures, or a vase. If you are afraid of color, at least consider something like the second photo attached and go with a white tile that has an accent pattern in it somewhere. Even the subtle addition of a few scattered dark tiles provides some depth and interest.
