I think that lamps are always a nice touch to a bedroom, simply because they offer softer lighting. Here are a few ideas:

According to this you need about 2150 lumens to light your bedroom (using the midrange foot-candle figure given on this page). A single 100W bulb will give you less than 1000 lumens max, so it's probably not going to be enough.

Also, the light from flush mount ceiling fixtures tends to be harsh and not very useful. Consider changing it to a pendant, or eliminating it entirely in favor of lamps.
