This room has potential but I agree it's disjointed and just not working. I think what stands out the most to me is that the draperies are "summery" (like cotton sheets) and the carpet is "wintery" (like a wooly sweater) - if that makes sense. And neither are working with the anything else in the room. Definitely get new lined draperies in a weightier material and consider changing the area rug for something more traditional but still modern enough to work with the leather sofa. I personally wouldn't do anything before you changed these two important features because I think all you will need to do then is tweak what you have. Good luck from Montreal!
