Living Room Window

Hello! We have our first house, yay! Now what to do!? We were planning on having our "tv living room" in our basement and we have a "living room" upstairs, where the previous owners had their television. There is no fire place. I wanted to add some flair and bring some new life to the space right after we rip out the old carpet for the wooden floors underneath to finally get some air! I don't know what to do about what to have in front of the window- I don't like the idea of a couch; the neighbors to see the back of a couch, specifically. What are some ideas that I can turn this room into a potential favorite space but not adding all of our funds to remodel it?!

Lucky you to have two nice living spaces. A backless couch would sit in front of your pretty windows if you don't want to place a couple of chairs there:

I'm assuming this picture is the previous owner's furniture? Instead of a couch, I'm a big fan of having a comfy bench in front of windows - especially since you can use the other walls for the larger furniture.

You don't have to use a sofa at all, if you'd prefer; you could float chairs around a large coffee table for a conversational grouping. Or, if you want to make more of the view as a focal point, try a couch on the opposite wall, and use the area in front of the window for a chaise and side table, or a pair of chairs as pictured above.

I'm a big fan of four chairs around a coffee table in a space like this, just as studio10001 showed you, if you want to create a comfortable conversation area. Another option, especially since the TV may be in another space and there is no fireplace is to have the large windows become the focal point of the room and arrange the furniture accordingly. This could also become a great reading room with the addition of some nice bookshelves. It's often good to live in a home for several months before tackling a room like this. You may find the perfect use for this room once you've been in the home for awhile.

Thank you all for your help! Love the bench idea- planned on a bench for the kitchen- can I OD on benches? I love how the 4 chairs look with a cool coffee table and have bookcases! LOVE! Thank you all for the ideas and visuals! Ps: this furniture is the previous owners, thankfully ;)

Since you are not using it for TV. There are many options. Just make it a comfortable sitting room. One is 4 over stuffed chairs in a print, with a big round 36" glass and metal coffee table. Place chairs in circle and place in center if rm. if a ceiling light hang a chandelier . Hang low make it unusual. It should center over coffee table. On windows. Try roman shades. For a updated look. Paint. I like the dove grays, with a darker gray in a print for chairs.a charcoal for shades. Use white for trim. Use floor mirrors on back wall 2 6 ft with wide dark frame lean on wall with 2-4" between

Studio 1000 shows the chair grouping I was also suggesting. It doesn't look like a big room so should work.

Think outside the box. Don't do a boring sofa and chair, be bold in colors. Let your wood floors show off space. If not in good shape it's a easy fix. No carpet anywhere. It's so 1980s. Paint. It's the cheapest easy fix. Get sample try on walls. Paint whole area the same.
