The books picture is very cluttered. I'd go with the TV and stop at the library or read an ebook.

June Chapman, if you download books (ask at your local library how and also borrow large print books) to a Kindle reader or IPAD, you can enlarge the print. Would that help?

My eyesight is slowly worsening and while I do love the physical books, my Kindle has been a lovely addition to my life these past few years, since I can enlarge the print.

I have a couple of TV programs that I enjoy watching, but reading is and always has been my pleasure.

Books- We recently built our new home around our book collection. Not only do they provide information and entertainment, but it has been amazing to watch how every guest pauses to browse the shelves. I love how the mere notice of a favorite title or genre can lead to such unexpected conversations!

I wonder who writes books probably the same people who write TV shows. I do not want or need to choose. Life is better if we have options and I guess we are assuming that everything we read is the truth.

People who says they don't watch tv because it is ........, and they would rather read well, the subjects on many tv shows are the same subjects as in the books they are reading, e.g. crime , romance, education, espionage, or whatever, one is on paper, and the other is in picture form.

I don't have a TV and haven't done so for about a decade. I'm still alive! I have so many books though! And music! (but no room...!)

I'd choose an empty wall with a painting ) But between those two I choose TV, because books collect dust and get old - it's better to have a separated library room

I choose both. We have a 16-foot wall of books with a 47-inch TV on a center shelf in our informal family room open to our kitchen. Fireplace and finer decorative accessories are in our adjacent formal living-dining room.

But anyway, I often watch tv on an ipad and I can use it for reading, too, though I prefer actual books. I can't make a choice between the tube or the tomes---love 'em both!

Wow, I am surprised (and impressed) that most people voted for books. I also love books, but I have to be honest...so here goes...I am completely obsessed with the show "The Walking Dead", so I voted for TV.

Kiffkat.....I voted books, but I also LOVE The Walking Dead!!! I love to read, but there are a few TV shows that I can't miss, and that one is at the top of my list!!! It's so much more than just a mindless show about zombies. Any one who watches that knows what I'm talking about. Another one of my favorites, perhaps my favorite show ever, was Breaking Bad.

I have both, but to be honest, since the last move 4 years ago, where bad health has stopped from truly moving in. I have not really had access, and only missed my books some. We have been avid online watchers for years, we like international tv. Since the change in broadcast we can no longer even get the big three on tv, which encourages to watch online even more.

Now, when everyone seems to be speaking of books, they seem to be talking about fiction. I quit keeping fiction many years ago, at least a book a week the cost and space were prohibitive. having said that, I do own a hard back set of classic stories from my childhood, a set of tolkien, and a set of Douglas Adams.

So most of my books are highly informative and quirky, and not replaceable. I have a book that shows you every design in oriental carpets, what they mean and how to replicate them. I have a set of hippy dippy craft books from the 70s which show how to live almost totally off the grid. There are many other older books in art that show you how to do all kinds of things. Some of these things i can find on line, but not always. I have begun to limit my cook books. And yes, often i have key ingredients, want to change it up and look up online. But looking through my books can be far more expansive in my cooking. It is like using a dictionary or an old fashioned encyclopedia. It was not just what you were looking for, it was the journey getting there. you learned so many other things along the way. This is what we and our children are now missing in our lives, this is how we got all those strange little tidbits of knowledge.

I hate TV, I read or listen to radio on the Internet from all over the world or watch movies or whatever on an iPad.

Get a Kindle which can hold your entire library AND you get to keep the TV room! Is that cheating?

if you asked my tv to watch football, it would at the very minimum, faint. It might even have a heart attack and I can not afford that right now. TV is yanking on its cords so it can run away. computer screen right behind, gggooottta go, niiiighghht!

It's amazing how long these polls run in Houzz . . .and what I said last June 2014 is still true. However, if the TV happens to be on, it is because MOM is watching it, or for noise in the background while I'm online or reading. Dead silence can also be deafening.

Reading a book is much more stimulating than watching tv.

I absolutely adore reading books. Because these kind of people are more emotional.

I love books. The feel, the scent, the time they take to read and get to the conclusion, or gain the information. The way they make me think and often terms, phrases and and everything about them. I don't get it done for me.
