Painting the cabinets made the appliances blend in and the overall space look larger and less cluttered, which is a real feat in a kitchen. Good choice, though it will be interesting to see if the DIY paint job stands up to the rigors of kitchen use and abuse.

I hate my oak cabinets and eventually will be renovating kitchen but not for a few years. What did you do to prep the cabinets before painting, what type of paint and what colour white? Thank you.

My Hats off to you, great job! Just one thing that glares at me the Light over the sink, when you have the money replace it with whatever you like, but the gold hit me right away. You can buy something at a big box store for under $30.00.

I think It would look even more "designer" if you removed the clutter from the front of fridge. Maybe just put it all on the side of fridge. And change light over sink of course. Or paint it.

Although the wall paint looks fantastic, and the cabinets look so much better than before. It's the organizing skills shown in the new magnet arrangement on the fridge door that puts it over the top for me. Great Job !!!

Ah I see I should have guessed since my daughter uses her iPad for stuff and sometimes can't see some things---

pow up your accent colors - red looks great with grey - another way to add color is to
decorate the space between your upper and lower cabinets. Favorite photos or prints in
simple black frames... Go to a big city museum and scout the gift shop for postcards of
prints. They are usually 75 cents or a dollar. Good place to add red or even teal under those
cabinets....

Friend bought lots of black frames at IKEA -she put her kids,
grandchildren, pets photos under her cabinets - she says it
makes her happy when she is cooking to look at good family
times.....photos are all black/white

mproven, I really don't get this frames under the cabinets thing. Assume you mean the backsplash. I'd hate to be the one cleaning them every day. Furthermore, this is a small kitchen. The homeowner has done a great job making it appear larger and brighter. Keeping it simple is key.

I will agree with you re the cleaning; perhaps we don't seem to get them dirty - no children - nobody is mixing cookie dough on the counters... We don't have (all pictures) on our backsplash. One end has a holder for wine glasses (attached to upper cabinet) from IKEA - other side has a black iron IKEA 2 tier holder for salt/pepper shakers, oil container, etc.
Looking back at the kitchen photo, best color go above cabinets - there appears to be no soffet.
Colorful pottery looks good.

I really hate oak cabinets, so this looks SO much better to me! The brass light fixture can definitely be painted silver or nickel. I repainted a brass and oak ceiling fan to silver and white and it came out perfect. My daughter thought it was new! I used leftover ceiling paint for the white paint so the only cost was 5 dollars for the metallic paint.

The gray is harbor gray, and the white is atrium white from Benjamin Moore. As for preparation, we just did a coat of primer and 2 coats of paint. The cabinet doors were spray painted but the drawers and the rest were just rolled or brushed and you can barely tell the difference so I am sure it can be done without a sprayer. My advice would be to make sure the cabinets are really clean before painting because some grease stains still bled through the coats of primer/paint.

Since Houzz has failed to fix problem of IPad user not seeing after shots. Can't comment, but I did see gray mention. If so love it. Grays of all kinds are in and look great. A nice clean look. With white.

When painting cabinets. Must use paint made for them or will chip. Lowes carries on. New hardware in brush nickel Lon pulls is a updated look. Keep all finishes the same. Please do not use you refrig as a photo gallery, just looks cluttered. Keep counter and appl clutter free. Nothing on top of cabs either. A long pendant light will update any look.

You would be amazed how much changing knobs to brush nickel makes a difference. I was stunned when I changed mine out. It made the house look so much newer that we also replaced every door knob and hinge with brushed nickel lever style. That added up; we have a ton of doors. But it was so worth it! All these little things really age a house. Oh, we also replaced all the light switches with the flat kind. But just the knobs was huge.

Your kitchen Looks fantastic. Some people have asked about paint. We tried a paint on our trim and loved it, and we are considering painting our cabinets with it. My husband was impressed with how it went on and looked afterwards. It is called Cabinet Coat, Trim & Cabinet paint. It's expensive, but way cheaper than new cabinets and trim.

Much improved, but curious how the "after photo" was doctored. The microwave and oven are distorted, and the shade of the microwave as well as the toaster has changed.

@ Cloudpants--Are you looking at them on a notebook?-someone remarked earlier that she could not see them on her iPad- When you can it is the little pic below the big pic that's on the right-plain oak cabinets with a fluorescent yellow-green kitchen paint job. Huge difference just that $100 made!! Good luck at seeing the before pic!

The problem with not being able to see all the pictures is with the Houzz app on the iPad. When I open it in the browser (default browser on iPad is Safari) I can see all pictures. From the app, there's an option to "open in Safari." I would think Houzz would fix this limitation on their app.

@dtanglen thanks for that explanation!! I didn't know why I just remembered you said something about the notebook not showing it...

@dtanglen-I contacted support for Houzz & explained how their app was messing up somewhat. They'd like to correct it but need a screen shot of the error. Would you be able to go back into the $100 discussion on your iPad w/o using Safari and send them one so they can begin to know what to correct?
