I love the transformation!

Finally back to finishing the trim.

sandradclark, in 2015 you suggested I have my bathtub refinished. I did it!!!! Best money I ever spent. I thought you would like to see your suggestion come to life. I no longer grit my teeth when I walk into the bathroom, lol.

I reglazed a tub once (and a harvest gold stove) and was thrilled with how well it held up. Good move. I think this is one of my favorite threads ever.

I have a master I want to do with the same budget and restrictions you have. I actually feel like Houzz could help after seeing your bath come along slow but sure. It's gratifying to get to see the transition!! Nine times out of ten, the advice is offered and people don't post pix.

jznsgirl you should definitely start your own post. I had a few basic ideas before I started. Please note that the carpentry for the walls and shelves was done by me. Looks great in pics, but don't look too close. It's not very good, but I figured it was better than nothing, lol.

shwshw-I did!! I'm looking at painting my FP. Then I will move onto my dining area-and then the baths. My budget is all DIY or craigslist for the most part but people are -for the most part- real helpful and get it.

Carol-the same guy that reglazed out tub also did the stove. Used it for years until we replaced it. The paint did scorch under the rings of the burners but you didn't see it!! Made it so I didn't sink into a deep depression everytime I went in the kitchen-for about $150 (years ago)

I know this is budget blowing but I think it would be great over the tub in the scalloped area.

lucidos, that's really pretty. I never thought to put something up there. Great idea.

In a small room something like that swag, high up, bounces the eye and makes the room feel larger. You could alternatively fix decorative tiles. Or hand paint mandella tiles.

Those turquoise tiles are to die for. Any idea where you found them?

I just finished taping so I can finally finish all the woodwork.

I may need to rethink how I am hanging the towels. I got lots of good suggestions earlier. The problem I have is that the towels cover the part of the wall that has the boards on it and to me that is the best part of that wall. Here's an older pic showing how I hang the towels.

I did not originally have the "high" board across the wall. Now that I do I can probably do another type of hanger without worrying about the toilet. The board is there because we had to nail into the studs to get a place to hang anything.

Brenda Waggoner, ugh, the floor grout. Have had lots of thoughts, but no conclusion. I really need a new floor. There are quite a few cracked tiles and places where the grout is falling out. Problem is, we are both 65 this year, my husband is partially handicapped and can barely work. We may have to move in the next few years and this house is possibly a tear-down. That all said, I have to keep thinking about the grout. Eek.

Hmmm, how about putting the high board all around the room? As far as the grout..regrouting is not all that daunting at all..Messy..yes... On a scale of easy to hard, it's about easy +1. Think wax on wax off. You can even paint grout for a quick fix. https://pinklittlenotebook.com/how-to-freshen-up-your-grout-lines-for-2-or-less/ Grouting is so easy though... I suggest a grout that matches the tile color.

Added: as far as the tiles...you can get unpainted ones at craft stores like Michales then use acrylic paint. You can even mold plaster directly to the walls...Victoria Larson has some great plaster molds. http://victorialarsen.com/home/plaster-stencils/

First coat upper trim done. Have to wash door and mirror surround before I paint. Break time

lucidos, such good ideas. Will be looking into all of that. Adding the high board all the way around would be very easy. So excited about the grout. I had it as a 10. Yay

Oh...so sorry I've been doing Canada Day stuff all day with the kidlets :) Yes Etsy, but seriously you can color a Mandella tile and get the same effect. They are pretty pricey on Etsy. Check Michaels.

see the progress. Clean grout may be in
your near future. My countertop grout is
30 years old and still looks like new. I
have used two methods with huge success and no real scrubbing was involved. My favorite is the Oxiclean Stain Remover. The second one was by accident LOL. I made it to clean my rings and when they
were done soaking I put the mixture on my countertop grout. Surprise it also cleaned my grout to like new
white. Once I get the tile and grout
clean, I sealing the grout to keep it clean longer. I buy a high-end sealer at a Tile Store
because it seems to last.

Oxiclean Stain
Remover - Extra Strong Cleaning
Solution

Mix 1 scoop (2 tablespoons) into 1 pint of hot water. Mix or shake thoroughly. Your OxiClean solution will remain active for
6 hours. I mix mine a little at a time
so that it is hot when I apply it.

Once mixed, I poured it into a plastic squeeze bottle like a
ketchup bottle. I bought mine at a
Beauty Supply store because theirs have very narrow nozzles so I can
concentrate the mix onto the grout.

Apply the mixture directly to the grout joints and allow it
to sit undisturbed for about 30 minutes trying not to have it fully dry. If it dries, you can reapply more for a few
minutes.

When done just thoroughly rinse the grout with COOL Water and
TaDa grout is clean with no scrubbing.

When dry seal the grout.

Baking Soda, Vinegar, and Salt Instructions

For every 1 Cup of HOT Water add 1
Tablespoon each of salt, baking soda and Dawn Dish Soap. I
mix mine a little at a time so that it is hot when I apply it.

I mixed mine in a glass measuring cup and
poured it into a plastic squeeze bottle with a long narrow spout like a ketchup
squeeze bottle. I bought mine at a
Beauty Supply store because theirs have very narrow nozzles so I can
concentrate the mix onto the grout.
Baking soda is gritty and this makes rinsing easier.

Apply the mixture directly to the grout
joints and allow to sit undisturbed for about 30 minutes.

Then Scrub the grout well, and rinse with
clear water making sure to remove any grittiness.

When dry seal the grout.

Have you tried hanging the towels on the back of the bathroom door or just using a free-standing towel rack near the tub.

All the painting is complete! Now on to tile floor repair/refresh. We really need a new floor, but just can't afford that now, so.... Filling in areas where grout is missing or loose, cleaning grout and then recoloring grout per suggestions from tiffany66 and lucidos. Here's my first attempt on step one, fixing the grout.

Have you come up with a towel solution? I love drying them on hooks, which you could put across that upper board. Mine (pic below) isn't as high as yours, but I think it would still work.

Shwshw, Just a thought, maybe paint the valance the blue color. It might make that shower curtain look even taller. Then you could have more decorative options in tiles or other things in white and they might even be cheaper.

I think you have done a great job in transforming your bathroom. You should give yourself a pat on the back.

Shwshw, it is my bathroom. The only full one shared by a soon-to-be family of 5. Eesh! I'm obviously a lover of color!!

Laura Villar, I added all the boards and the shelf. I am no carpenter, lol, so you don't want to look too close. Still, I am very happy with the overall affect. Here's the before pic of the same wall.
