Happy, I understand how hard it is because Moozie was also super smart and smart enough to be able to be an outdoor cat. Also it was stressful. I also knew she could take care of herself and yes over the years we get used to each other‘s habits and she understood me and I understood her. One reason that I decided to adopt two is that they will have each other and hopefully that will comfort them. The relationship with me will be important, but they will have something extra as well

Years ago, our neighbor rescued two with the same situation. They were older than your two and she called them the old ladies 🤣-their names were Blanche and Ester. They adjusted and were very laid back. You are doing a good thing, lia. 😻

Happy, you will never be able to replace the unique relationship that you had with Maui… but the relationship with each cat is different. At this point in my life, I’ve had eight different cats. Who’ve actually lived with me and a couple more strays that I looked after outside. what remains the same is the love.

I should show before and after shots of the work we are going to do in the studio room today. 🙄Getting rid of all of my plants and figuring out how to make the cats safe, welcomed, and comfortable. I told Susan to bring their old, scratching post, blankets, and anything familiar to them even if it’s old and ratty looking. There’s a nice wide windowsill that they can jump up on to look out the window. My neighbour found these cute little cat beds at the dollar store and she bought me two of them.

First day of school for the grandkids today. Looking after them on Tuesday and Wednesday was fun but exhausting. They were out here on Tuesday, but my son had to work on Wednesday so I went in town and we did everything from mailing letters to the other grandparents to pretending they were baby penguins hatching out of the egg, eating special delifood…🤪

Yes, sometimes when I do a project, I wished I had done a before picture like that storage room in the hallway. Lia I’m super excited and can’t wait until I see the after pictures of your studio! This is so exciting 🥰 I think the two new occupants of your home are going to be very happy. Of course it may take a few days as you know. I guess getting the most out of there that you can and I was going to mention if you had shown pheromones that you might use? You might wanna wait and see if you need them? That may give them an off feeling more than an on feeling? Unless perhaps they’ve used them before and their previous home? When they start realizing that a lot of their things are there that they used to be around, I think they will really like that.

As you can see I gave away all the plants. I moved everything underneath the work table area to put the two litter boxes there. This took all day and I also had my helper working on it for four hours this morning. What you don’t see is the amount of work it took to relocate everything that was moved OUT of the room. And relocate it so that I’m not going to have a ton of work to do later. That involved entirely cleaning out a closet in the hall, sorting through stuff to give away and making room to store some of the art supplies that were in here. Whew. This studio room /cat space still needs more work in terms of organizing my art supplies, but it’s much more manageable now. You can see the gate leaning up against the door… I will put that across the door when the cats move in, to keep them confined to this room until they feel confident enough to start exploring. Then I will let them explore the upstairs first. The two litter boxes will go on the plastic tablecloth underneath the work table. I hope they fit. If they don’t they will go on the floor in front.

The throw draped over this white chair and the small side table will be arranged to create a shelter underneath the chair for the cats with their two little sleeping baskets. A little hiding place for them. The two trays on the floor are for their food and water.

Holy moley! That would have taken me a month! You move fast, Lia! It looks really nice. ☺️

Holy moly is right! You have done an extensive amount of emptying out and relocating. I get you on the having to clean something else out to clean something out to put all the stuff. I love the window there for them with the deep windowsill. I think that they are going to love their new space. Job well done. The thing with the curtain in the back is that a closet?

And just for my own curiosity Lia what type of flooring is there in that room underneath your rugs? The green? Is that a linoleum or a marmoleum?

Our drive north to my niece’s was uneventful fortunately. We made the trip in 11 1/2 hours with a 30 minute stop to eat burgers & fries. Then gas up the car again with one more quick rest area stop! So arrived at their home at 5:45 p.m. yesterday. This morning was running errands, re gassing up the car and a car
wash. This afternoon we took another niece out for a wonderful Mexican lunch at a new restaurant in town. Tomorrow Erving is the wedding we came home to attend.

Good morning peeps… Absolutely pouring rain here. An old boyfriend of 50 years ago stopped in to visit on his way to Cape Breton. Just a short drop in for tea but it was great to see somebody that I connected with at the Art college back in the day. He has had a fascinating life; currently lives in San Francisco but has lived in multiple places including Manhattan and Europe has travelled extensively. On his way to Italy soon. It’s amazing how different people’s lives end up. Meanwhile I’ve been here for 40 years… Raised two kids. He had a career as a prominent designer and I ended up being an art teacher. there is work in the arts!

Cats… Violet and Ollie are their names. Not planning on changing them. They will certainly get nicknames however. Yes it feels absolutely fantastic to have this studio dealt with. Not to mention the hall closet cleaned out and now…my car is full of things to drop off at value Village.Gls you are correct! There’s nothing like the arrival of guests, not to mention new residents … To light a fire under me.

Alice, that flooring has worn like iron and I highly recommend it. It’s indoor outdoor carpeting that we installed here 40 years ago when we moved in as the floor was unfinished as I recall. This carpet has almost no nap to it. Extremely easy to clean. This room was the playroom for the boys when they were young, and then my bedroom for a while when the boys each needed their own room upstairs and then the art studio.

Enjoy your respective weddings this weekend Gls and Ladma…I hope the weather is better where you are! It’s supposed to rain heavily on and off all weekend here with perhaps some lightning up on Monday! I expect the cats to be dropped off on Saturday and I hope the weather improves a little bit for the drop off. I’m glad they’re not doing it today as it’s coming down in buckets. It’s absolutely miraculous the amount of work that was done on that front room 🤪I could not have done it without my helper Kate. she also took over all the plants which was a real boon.

On the carpet… It’s not something you would install for cushy comfort. It’s very utilitarian so I put rugs on top of it. It’s extremely durable and suitable for this one story addition on the front of the house that has always had a sunroom feel.

Hopefully that weather holds out and the rain slows down for you tomorrow Lia! I’m excited and I imagine you are too with a bit of apprehensive enjoyment of what’s unfolding for you there. I probably wouldn’t go with it in the kitchen, but this back room that we all tend to navigate to, is probably where I need to start.

I think indoor outdoor carpet would work well for you in your area Alice… Of course this is not exposed to the weather so I don’t know what your back porch situation is like but it is billed as indoor outdoor. Unfortunately I don’t know the brand as it was 40 years ago. We installed it ourselves because it’s very thin and easy to cut and doesn’t stretch at all. I believe there was also no underlay. The underlay was part of the carpet. You asked what was behind this curtain…it’s a set of bookshelves that hold Materials and craft fair display items related to my craft business. One of the things on my agenda once the cats adapt to the whole house, is sorting through my supplies, Organizing them better and downsizing them.

The curtained bookshelves are set against the right hand side of this closet which is what I was using as my work table area and where the litter boxes will now be, on the floor.

Meanwhile, I set up the pump because the basement is flooding… So it begins.🤪

We're in the heat wave right now and storm watch we got 98 Degrees but that's not that heat index and it's going to go till 6:00 p.m. they say but our house will remain hot my son first the house hot because he's freezing down in the basement he wears a sweatshirt if he gets hot upstairs he takes it off those are cute names that cats have

Yes tomorrow afternoon 3 pm is the arrival time. The cat beds that my neighbour brought, two of them… one for each cat are hidden under the chair and they will have their own blankets put into them so they smell familiar. And then I have two baskets in the living room for them when they get brave enough to venture out. I may end up putting the cat baskets upstairs… I haven’t decided.

We all wait in anticipation. It’s like bringing a new baby home from the hospital.
