Your house is not symmetrical so why would the landscaping need to be? And yeah, I'd agree your current landscaping is pretty bland.......as in nonexistant!!

The thing you need most is improved paving on the way to the entrance. The walk is too skinny. It's not a house that needs many plants in front of it.

You don't need symmetry but balance would be good. Listen to the above landscape pros.

I would paint the garage door a lighter shade of the house paint so it recedes a bit. Right now it's bright white and grabs your attention...feels like it's coming atcha!

Love the planting suggestions above, especially the pink/purple flowering tree. The color is a nice contrast with the house paint.

You want the tree not in front of your front door. If it is, over time, everything except the garage will be hidden by the tree. I'd put low-growing flowering plants, like lavender flanking the door to play it up. They I'd put a tree, like Doug's pink flowering cherry, to the side and slightly behind the front door and have it part of a bed, there.
