No we don't have a pantry.

I have a space to the left of my fridge but I tried putting something there and it looked like an after thought.

Could you use the bottom shelf in one of your upper cabinets?

How often do you use it and what do you use it for? If it's just for reheating coffee, then maybe you could do without?

I don't think we could do without :( I may just resort to putting it in the laundry room for now. I really like the drawer idea though.

I understand why you don't want one on your counter, but it does seem to me that if you got a small one and put it all the way to the right of your counter space, it would not be in the way as that's probably not usually work space. Or all the way to the left, it might be less noticeable. Maybe you could find one that is small and inconspicuous or with a design you wouldn't mind having on the counter. Having it in another space like the laundry room could be very inconvenient, although I don't know where your laundry is, but imagine carrying hot spillable things from/to the microwave ... I'd rather have it within the kitchen space.

Do you have electricity to the counter where the bar stools are? In the first picture it looks like you have double width cabinets for that counter. If so could you put it in the cabinet to the right of the bar stools (the one you walk past to enter the kitchen). The "back" porton of that cabinet appears to be an empty box. The micro wave would have to face into the area that you use to enter the kitchen in order to obtain the width you need.

Can you take off the back of the cabinet (which abuts the bar stool) and the front doors so that you gain inches. The smallest micro wave is 14 inches deep but the feet are usually recessed in so that the microwave might balance on the shelf. Then you can do what auntthelma suggests ie. cookbook on the open shelves.

Hmmmm., glad we got rid of ours years ago.....space is always a premium and we found out Health wise, you need to be 10 feet away from it when on or subject yourself to its emissions, so for us it was a simple decision. Noticed too that food tastes better cooked or pot heated.

You can hang a microwave from the upper cabinets. You buy a kit.

I'd hang it to the right of the refrigerator. The advantage of hanging it is that you can use it (open and close the door) and still prepare food in front of it, and under it. That's our toaster tucked underneath. Here's what it looks like in our kitchen, beside the refrigerator. The under-cabinet lighting is under the rest of the upper cabinets.

Re that comment about needing to be 10 feet away from the microwave, I don't think that's accurate. Everything I've read says that the microwaves are contained within the cabinet of the microwave, and even if the seal isn't perfect, the amount of seepage is not anywhere near enough to be a risk to health.

Otherwise I'm done for!

microwaves do come in different depths. Measure at home before you shop.

Before you put your microwave in a cabinet, you need to make sure there is proper venting!
