    Sounds beautiful :)

I've always wanted to go to the West of Ireland, only been to the East Coast.

What style of house would you build?

I don't know if you've read most of this long thread, but I live in the US, in New Jersey.

Hi Mefor, well I built this house and started in 2007, now I'm ready for my next project, A true LOG HOME, I have been looking at examples from all over the world and have amassed much information, the trouble Ireland is a bit backward and can not see the benefits of this type of home, so I may be looking in FRANCE as the land is much cheaper, in some cases less then 1/4 of the price, but I need to sell this place first, and the market is slow, but still dreaming
  • 11 years ago

Well, as odd as it may be to them, I look at photos like this and I could see a log home here, how lovely :))

I can imagine its quite difficult to sell right now, very bad times for that. At least for getting a fair price anyway. Building in France would be lovely too, though it reminds me of A Year in Provence, and the building would take ages if you were in the Luberon like Peter Mayles. Makes funny reading but a terrible strain if you're living through it!!!

Unless you could build all of it yourself? No waiting on the trades to come in and wire and plumb?

Hi Barry, nice to meet you. I've never been to Ireland, but I believe it's a beautiful place. Seen lots of photos. Mefor and I have a mutual friend who is completely Ireland-crazy :-) Building a log home sounds like quite an undertaking. But I agree with mefor that it wouldn't look out of place in a green environment.

    These ones look interesting:

Or were you thinking of a different style?

Love the mountain backdrop in the last pic, gorgeous

Nice to meet you carolins WOW, thanks girls, nice bit of inspiration, the type i am hoping for is a full round log, about 10 - 12 inch dia, set in a wooded area, ahhhhhh heaven, I have seen some on websites from America and Canada, but it costs nearly as much to transport as it would be to buy it, But there are a few in Europe and Scotland which deal with them as well, so I will try and find a good example and send a photo.
I am not a whizz kid on computers, but i will try and send some photos of this area for your pleasure.
OOOOPS, the computer won't let me choose a file, it says " outside file not available " I will get advice so don't hold your breath he he

Barry, you'd get very cold in the top one, it has no roof yet!!! But great setting :)

    Beautiful Victoria :)

    That's a gorgeous house Victoria!

VICTORIA, nice house, is that typical of your area as it is what i think you call colonial, great job, how about a working holiday he he he.
MEFOR, SILLY GIRL, I'D PUT A ROOF ON AS WELL, BUDGET ALLOWING, BUT OF COURSE AS IT IS YOU'D HAVE A GREAT VIEW OF THE STARS AT NIGHT.
I am in UK Barry, so, er, no, not typical!
Victoria, O.K. that's cool, I am also originally from the U.K. an old cockney, and proud of it, although i live in Ireland, I have just put the house on the market as I am returning to the U.K as soon as its sold and will start looking for a bit of land so that i can build my log home, Was it difficult to A. find a piece of land, and B. get planning for your style of house, C. how long did it take to get the planning permission.
No, we demolished an existing property. No. Eight weeks.
Hi Victoria, how will you design the interior is there going to be a theme / colour orientated ?
Ah, so I'm scandi/coastal with a bit of purple as I couldn't resist.
Walls are all just not quite white though, same throughout.
Nice, purple and off whit really go well together.
My house is cream with accent wall in terracotta, and other areas in, WAIT FOR IT Magnolia, Whats wrong with that, I can hear all the laughter from here, but I like it

Sadly not on here anymore - due to the problems that having a chat on a website that's worldwide and open to all can bring - as not everyone was as lovely as others ! ( and we had some weird comments by kinky oddballs, that we had to report, too ) But the key people who used to chat on this thread are all happy and well I'm pleased to report ! This house thread was the start - meet ups across the world have cemented friendships born on this very thread !!

    Me too

I'll type with a French accent if that makes you feel better?

Or should that be 'avec un accent de Francais'.

(Apologies I only managed a very poor CSE in French at school........)

I've been typing with a very heavy Dutch accent for years :-)

Bongiorno! With a heavy Italian accent. Not really I have a right south London accent which gets stronger after a drink or two 😊 My relatives tell me even when I speak Italian that London sound still comes through! 😊
