Those pictures are very deceiving making it look like there are 4 blue and 2 charcoal chairs, but I promise, it's 3 and 3. No matter what angle I moved to, the glare from those windows was causing me picture taking problems, lol:).

I like the way the chairs tones are so close, one is not sure if they are shadows or different tones. The brighter colors would have been too much.

These are 6 x 45. I think three of them on that wall would look good with the kitchen cabinets.

The new chair colors are very cool. The charcoal looks about as expected and I love it, but the ice blue is unique and fun. Sometimes the ice blue chairs look light blue, sometimes white and sometimes light gray. Just depends on artificial vs daylight and how the light hits them. They are really pretty that way. I think I've said it (about 4 times now, lol) but I simply love these chairs. You know how when something new arrives, it can take a day or two to adjust. Well, with these chairs, the minute I walked in her kitchen, I just smiled feeling they were perfect. When she called the day before and said they had arrived, I figured they were nice when I asked if they liked them and she immediately responded yes. That's kind of unlike her as she usually takes a bit of time to warm up to new furniture. The living room furniture took them both a few days of adjustment. Overall, I'm so pleased. I was nervous about helping her in general. Even more stressful than choices for my own home. But, being able to talk this through here on Houzz and having very similar likes to those of her and her hubby, it's looking very nice. And, as much as decorating is a VERY unpleasant chore for her, I can see they are very pleased with the changes to their home.

Ann, you said it all so well!!! And it has to feel sooooo good for all of you! Making changes like this is huge as we know it is not something the changes with the seasons, so the commitment is huge.

Wish there were some in a more silver frame.

48" high. How tall are the windows? I think they could hang straight across or be staggered.

There is a little built in desk area in her kitchen where we previously discussed possibly ordering a 7th Eames chair. LB thought a different chair for that space was a better idea and that made sense to me. Well, this family office space that is being vacated (where I'm wondering if there might be some art possibilities for their house) has two or three orange upholstered Eames chairs in the waiting area and DD and I were talking yesterday about seeing if her Hubby might be able to get one of those to try at their built in kitchen desk. I've only seen them once (years ago) so I don't remember them well, but I'm really excited to see if he can get one and if it works at the desk. I do remember complimenting the look and comfort of those chairs and asking where he got such cool chairs. He said they were Eames and the office decorator had picked/ordered them. It was a really, really cool office space with stained concrete floors and industrial ceilings and lighting.

That would be awesome to have one of those at the desk....and then with the new linens you just ordered.....wow!!!

Thes wipeable poly placemats are more in vogue now (if you feel you need placemats). Are the placemats used? what is the orange item?

Her current placemats are old and stained. The striped ones are from Crate and Barrel and the solid orange is the matching napkin. We ordered both yesterday. She uses placemats every day (me too at my house). Yesterday, when discussing the light fixture, she wondered about a nook fixture with orange in it. It was very difficult finding a suitable 30" diameter fixture (remember, most everything we looked at was too small) and I think finding one with orange would be impossible and wouldn't allow future color changes, so I said how about the neutral light fixture and maybe orange in placemats. She was good with that plan and at $5.95 per placemat and $4.95 per napkin, I thought that was a good solution to adding the orange she wanted to add to the nook.

Does everyone think the orange striped placemats are too bright and orange? They haven't arrived yet and if they're a bad choice, we can just return them to the local Crate and Barrel. They were a free shipping item so nothing would be lost in returning them.

I think they look......happy. And if she wanted orange in this space, she is getting orange.

Placemats for your meals.....good for you. I use cloth napkins, but I like this idea, too.

She and I both use placemats at every meal. I guess I figured everyone did, lol:). Doesn't your table get really scratched up without placemat protection? I only use cloth napkins when company is over (same for her). She just decided to order the napkins for that purpose (company) since she has people over often.

I just feel better washing napkins instead of throwing them away and feel like they add a touch of....elegance......to even a simple meal. The little ones enjoy them when they come, too. No scratches on the table or anything like that, but I think a placemat would just dress up each setting a bunch, too.

That's a nice mirror too. I haven't talked to her about that wall yet. I'll do that when we're up there helping hang the new nook light (it hasn't arrived yet). I imagine it will take a few hours to hang it. Her hubby suggested she hire someone but my hubby has hung chandeliers before so I think he'll be fine with the job.

......and then she'll have the $ to buy....., let's say........a mirror.

Just a quick update. Nothing much going on at DD's house. The light fixture arrived but we haven't been up for Hubby to help install it. Hopefully in the next couple weeks. The striped placemats also arrived and DD says they're bright pumpkin orange, so they're getting returned. I'll take pics when the light is hung:)

Hubby installed the nook light at DD's house today. I really like it! I forgot my good camera but used Hubby's iPhone to take a couple pictures - tough to get an acceptable pic with the window light in front of the camera.

Beautiful day in Colorado today! The light looks quite nice, the pics don't do it justice at all! Hubby did a great job. The hardest part was moving that table a few feet. You wouldn't believe how heavy that RH table is!!!!

It looks fantastic! It just fits the space. While your eye notices the light, your eye goes right to view.

Note how the black and white piece of art is acting as a "mirror", reflecting the green pines. Imagine a mirror there, acting as a virtual extension of the view.

CDR, I agree about the mirror but when I mentioned it to DD, her response was, "OMG, we don't want to watch ourselves eat!". Lol:)))))

I wish I would have remembered my nicer camera so I could have gotten a better pic of the new light. It's really cool. Its 30" diameter is more substantial looking in person than it shows in the pic and it's a great fit over the table. I'm glad we chatted for so long (in this Houzz discussion) about the proper size. Also, DD and I were surprised how nice the table is pulled out a bit, centered under the wiring (remember the old swag in the previous chain). The table is better positioned now but the previous owners had a tiny rectangular table, so maybe that's why they shoved it in toward the windows like it was. Also, I was pleasantly surprised the island pendants don't look totally terrible with this new light. DD's Hubby hates the traditional lights the house came with so I think many changes to the lights will happen over the next few years, but they won't need to rush (which they don't with changes to their home). But, I'm quite pleased with the living room and nook so I'm no longer feeling like I need to pressure her into hurrying with remodeling. I especially love those Eames chairs and the way those chairs and the light provide a modern feel and the RH table provides a chunky rustic feel just like the living room where the upholstered furniture and lamps are modern but the fireplace and coffee table are rustic, chunky and mountainy:) Oh also, I was wondering how the height of new light would work out since it hangs from a fixed rod of 12 and 6" sections screwed together. We were able to come up with a combination that placed the bottom of the light 31.5" above the table top, which was great.

Any mirror that would go there would not be a single tall, rectangular mirror. Rather, something like I posted above, that would be more of a hint of a reflection. An alternative would be a piece of art that is

-not reflective

-narrower

-longer.

The piece there does not fit, because most of the time it is acting as a mirror anyway (even though it is not intended to ) and its size does not fit the shape of the space.

The nook is looking superb! Maybe you daughter & hubby would go for a metal (rustic but modern) piece for the nook wall.

I don't think that wall is on her radar screen right now, but maybe when she gets her next wave of interest in making changes, it'll move up the ladder. I think highest on their list right now is a brand new deck (but that will be very expensive so not sure when that will begin) and new master bedroom furniture. They have some empty guest rooms so they plan to move their master furniture into one of those and begin fresh with their bedroom. That project will be a fun one and I'm guessing she'll let me/Houzz help her.

That is probably a nice piece of art......I have never seen it clearly....always a reflection on it. Perhaps it could simply be used elsewhere. There is nothing wrong with nothing on that wall and that is certainly a consideration. The focal point should be the window, but because of the reflection in the art, its wrong size for the space, my eye always goes to it.

......something to keep in mind, should the art be needed in another room in the future.

Would a non-glare glass work on that piece?

That might work Lainie but I do think a vertical piece would be better, so I don't think I want to encourage her to work with the current art.

Yeah, it is a big help. I had regular glass replaced with museum glass on a couple framed pieces of mine and it makes a huge difference. It was quite expensive though, surprisingly so.

.....and there is a difference between non-glare and museum glass, museum being thee more expensive of the 2. Non-glare is best viewed only from straight-on (looks diffused if viewed from an angle). Museuem glass can be viewed straight on and at an angle.

New dilemma of mine, if you're willing:)
