Housewright Construction milled the wide floorboards for this beautiful bedroom in Hartland, Vermont. Sargent Design layered the room in soft neutrals with subtle pops of preppy pinks and greens. These colors, along with the printed window treatments and artwork, give the room personality and charm.
The homeowners are particularly pleased with how the master suite turned out. “I really love our master bedroom,” Hannah says. “It’s a great space, and it’s really cozy. The picture rail and gallery rods make it really easy to change art.” The dark paint on the lower two-thirds of the wall is on-trend, though at first Hannah thought it might be “a little out there.” When she showed it to her father during a video chat, he assumed it was existing paint that would be changed. “He said, ‘They’re going to cover the black, aren’t they?’” Hannah says. Mack created an inviting reading spot in the master bedroom by swiping the black-and-gold houndstooth chair and the trio of paintings from the living room. She added a small black accordion table, floor lamp and yellow pillow to cozy things up.
Mack added a wood mantel to denote where a fireplace had been years ago. She arranged the homeowners’ existing artwork and added a new piece to it (the butterfly).
Julia Mack Design, LLC Mack relocated the bed between the windows and covered the headboard wall in blue Woods and Stars wallpaper by Cole & Son. The wallpaper adds color, pattern and the sparkle of stars to the room. Mack also helped the couple choose new bedding to complement it.
The homeowners refinished the floors with a dark stain, painted the walls a neutral tan and added tall window treatments that bring elegance to the room. The canopy bed enhances the room’s sophisticated feel.
