- Canadian soapstone, mined in Quebec, is generally lighter in color than most soapstone seen in N America, which is nowadays mined mostly in Brazil. The Canadian soapstone is a little softer to the touch, but wears exceedingly well, and can be oiled for a darker color. Brazilian soapstone is ore of a dark green. Both will darken with oil.

Pic 2. Lovely Colonial feel to this kitchen, but still bright & airy feeling. Lacanche Range was worth every penny. Gas stove on left, electric stove on right. Four burners plus a huge burner under a cast iron simmer plate in the middle that doubles as counter space when cool. Super easy to clean with a wet soapy rag. It's actually built with very few parts and easy to service
Pic 4 - Counters are honed Jet Mis granite. Pretty good sub for soapstone & won't show water spots as much as shiny granite.
