Hello, Tile should never be installed directly on sheetrock - it does not have long term integrity to support wall or ceiling tile. All the sheetrock was removed in the shower area, then we installed a vapor barrier, then 1/2" thick concrete underlayment, then waterproofing, then setting material and finally tile. This whole shower is a wet area. Feel free to call me if you need any more advise on tiling your wet area, there are many more factors that go into showers than I listed here.
