Nice clean style. You could paint the wainscoting on your island a nice brown. I suggest complimenting or matching one of the brown tones in your new flooring.
I'm really thinking a nice buttery yellow would be beautiful in your kitchen and family room. In the family room, especially, it would brighten up the space.

Not for your home, but I love the look of the blonde wood cabinets. Wood is trending strong right now but its very difficult (if not impossible) to change the natural colors of yellow or red oak.

This creamier white pulling more yellow tones is nice. Note the similarity with your back splash.

This kitchen really flows because of the stainless appliances. It would look entirely different with white.

Another example with all white with dark counters and floors. I do enjoy the glass doors on each side of the sink (I did this). It breaks up the monotomy of the white.
One other comment, white cabinets are particularly difficult with kids.

If you did go white, this is close to how your kitchen would feel. Note even the darker floors and white appliances.

If open to yellows, this color compliments nicely with your granite.

Giving you an idea of open cabinetry. My guidelines on this: any item in site should be visually appealing, organized and complimentary to items in any other open cabinet in close range. Must minimize anything on the counter top to avoid visual clutter.

The caption on this says it all: "Classic simple white". I'm just not seeing this crisp of white in your kitchen.

Note, this design has a different island color, but the backsplash behind the stove compliments it, so it works. It isn't just a single random element.

Note how having cabinets all one color, you focus more on the accents such as the counter top and back splash. This has a nice complimentary wall color.

This is that smokey white I think you were talking about. Sorry, just not digging it. I don't think it would go well with your white appliances.

This color yellow is very soothing to the eye and acts as a nice backdrop to most any accents. Your global pottery would go well with this.

This is a nice clean, bright look. Note also this kitchen has darker floors. When working with white appliances, this color pallet doesn't overly disrupt your eye.

Just noting the accent color on the islands. I don't suggest this color.

Yellow as an accent on the island. Nothing more here.

Noting yellow on walls and the similarity with your back splash.

Noting creamier white paint color.

Brave choice with the buttery yellow. If I enjoyed yellow and wasn't planning to sell in the next 5 years, this might be of interest.

Noting gray wall in backgroup and how it works with darker floors and lighter cabinets. \

A white that isn't bright white.

Note how complimentary all the colors in this kitchen are. Love the class cabinets on each sink side.

The yellow on the island is a nice visual change and focal point.

Another example of everything blending together. BUT, the stainless breaks up the monotony of the otherwise monotone kitchen.

Soft yellow walls work well with this color cabinetry.

This kitchen counter and backsplash is similar to yours. The cabinet color works well. The brown on the island can be replicated on yours with paint. I suggest picking one of the darker brown tones in your flooring.
