The brief for this renovation is almost the same as yours. Similar age home, butlers pantry, studio, north facing windows, extension, change to bedroom, new bathroom. Includes floor plan
Another view of Fitzroy House - Rob Kennon
Overhead natural light - brings light into south facing rooms/ creates feeling of space- provides option to use existing skillion perhaps.
https://www.architest.com.au/6th-project interesting before and after comparison photos. not exactly the look we are after, but lovely renovation.
Taking in the north sun by building sideways
Glass doors between rooms
Simple connection between old and new. See Jess Hunter Interiors - lot I like about her designs.
glass walkway alongside internal courtyard
capture northern light
Glass walkway concept
67 Waratah St - windows, sage green, light, big glass doors, big deck
67 Waratah St Geelong West - just been sold. Good layout, also I liked the clean lines, large deck, outside cooking area. Also a fan of the sage green
window. timber colour
Room feels welcoming - light timber; large opening windows / glass; window seat
raked ceiling, light filled, Windows, louvres, timber panelling, colour of panelling
Breathe architecture - raked ceiling
Window seat, timber ALSO THICK WALLS - this 50s Melbourne house has been insulated on the outside - reverse brick veneer house - this has created interesting deep window treatments. https://www.breathe.com.au/inside-out-house
Breathe raked ceiling again.
Example of Extension to 50s house. Bit dull but shows what can be done and the whole project has elements I like - rakes ceiling and clerestory windows to bring in light, large sliding door as feature (green glass?), large external sliding glass doors, book shelves, timber floor.
I also like the retro/industrial/ modern look, large windows, dark frames; this is softened by timber, although I don't want timber on ceilings. Love the look of concrete but it is too hard on our old feet and knees.
Clerestory windows and also side windows in the ceiling facing west - light and / or cross ventilation
Pretty cool roofline - extension north facing windows option.
US extension / renovation of mid century house - clean lines, limited selection of materials works nicely. https://www.dezeen.com/2017/08/17/jeff-jordan-architects-updates-hillcrest-house-mid-century-home-floor-to-ceiling-windows-hudson-valley/
I do like this light beach look, but its style does not line up with the other photos - however ...kitchen /dining area. colours. built in seat. louvres. chair.
Again - a lighter version I like including white walls, light timber eg dining table/ chairs and clerestory windows
morganhomebuilders Connewarre house. light. windows
skylight options for rooms on east fenceline if needed? particularly if kitchen doesnt ket natural light from windows.
Nice to consider - a feature? Tom hates flies coming inside :) servery window. gas lift
example of original facade, modern extension
Pavilion look - has been discussed as a means to bring in light, outside-in feeling, aesthetics - this vs Rakes ceiling? which makes room look bigger? Brings in northern light in winter? is better for passive house attributes; what's the purpose? exterior colourbond and timber
Pavilion shape again - added texture in the room with panelled walls, light timber, integrated shelf with range hood is nice way to use the shelf. and glass walkway
pavilion extension with roofline continued out to verandah (unnecessary expense?)
cathedral ceiling apex running in correct direction for living room to capture nth sun through skylights
skylight in living room - option for capturing light
Interesting treatments I like - the timber flooring, panels on walls, quirky reading nook for kids in a transition spot.message floorboards.
Random - narrow room that could fit in 3.5m driveway - north facing windows onto small garden and then carport - what would be entrance to house for car in front driveway then?
Saved this as example of possible roofline extension into driveway through breeze, timber framed Windows, roof angles
wall feature
circle window
tv wall idea
kitchen / living area desk set up for lite admin - eg calendar, recipes, phone messages etc
mood board. Could be complemented by black or brown industrial steel beams.
Use of different wall lines to access northern sun. External clear cover for pergola. Industrial materials to retain warmth. Use of height in ceilings to convey sense of spaciousness.
