Would I like a black granite island countertop better, if the cabinetry were black, minimizing the contrast in that area??

elegant, but light floors, higher ceilings and glass cabinet fronts add to that in a way I wouldn't be able to do so . . .

just warm and elegant . . . but lighting would be different due to window placement

I like the island top, warmth of the grey and the base too, pendants and then lighter main cabinets, Don't know if I would want the dark counter tops there or go for lighter
