Think about this . . . Rather than having a counter stool close to the familyroom door, allow the cupboard closest to the familyroom door to be full depth with door access on the diningroom side. Then reduce the depth of the cupboards closest to the pantry cupboard allowing a countertop overhang on the south side and east side of the peninsula accommodating 2 stools on the south side of the peninsula and one stool on the east side of the peninsula making it easier for people to have a conversation at the peninsula.
This Atlanta living room by Tom Williams Residential also adopted the more-is-more approach. A love seat and three upholstered chairs handle daily needs, while a leather coffee table and side stool serve as additional seating as needed. I like the idea of the leather coffee table and the side stool used as an end table.
