Natural Lighting - This lighting has the full spectrum of colors creating white light.

Task Lighting - This light source is shining down on the surface or task at hand.

Accent Lighting - This lighting highlights, or accents certain pieces or focal points.

Ambient Lighting - This type of lighting requires the light source to be hidden, or the light to reflect off of something.

Wall Grazing - Putting the light fixture very close to the wall to highlight the texture.

Perimeter Lighting - Highlighting the perimeter of the room, the light source goes along the perimeter.

Up Lighting - Lighting up from the floor to create a softer light.

Cove Lighting - Ceiling is lowered and the light is tucked into the cove.

Recessed Lighting - The lights are recessed into or flushed with the ceiling.

Drop Lighting - Light provided from a pendant or hanging light fixture.

Wall Washing - Pull the light fixture further away from the wall to visually smooth the wall.

Sconce - Fixture on the wall.

2x2 Fixture - A 2x2 square embedded in the ceiling. Most common in classrooms and offices.

Incandescent Bulb - An electric light with a wire filament that is heated until it glows.

Fluorescent Bulb - A light source consisting of a long glass tube containing mercury in a partial vacuum.
