In the tiny bath, we could "line" the inside of the shelves with wood, and paint them white (like this photo) or make the inside of that niche a color...like navy or some other color that works with the blue penny dot and wallpaper...
So this is an out of the box idea, but since you're adding shiplap in the stairs, framing a low wall in the foyer (complete with a curve!) might be really cool. We could shiplap both sides of the wall (stair side and foyer side) which would give that shiplap a nice termination point in the foyer which we don't currently have. Food for thought, but this might be my favorite! :)
This curved wall detail is my favorite. In your case, shiplap would be the way to go...
Super basic pickets, rail and newel post. A classic...and you could add a bench at the bottom the stairs if you want/need to!
We could do a detail like this at the bottom of the stairs. Kinda groovy. A little different and easy to add with how your current stair is framed.
More and more people are intrigued by cable rails and Roberto seemed fine with installing it.
Another take on the cable rail, this one with the cross rail wood. Also, we're seeing a lot of colored rails. Still lots of black and white, but lots of color on some or all the pieces.
This is what we did at our house but in white. Feels like the beach to me. :)

When using prefab cabinets in a renovation, sometimes we wind up with leftover space that isn’t quite the right size for a cabinet. Open shelves, like these next to the window, are a good way to overcome this. This is also an ikea cabinet door.
