Laundry is inevitable, but you don’t always have to look at it. That’s the idea the team from Kitchen Design Concepts brought to this Dallas home. “With all the closet doors shut and the ironing board folded away, you would not know this was the laundry room,” says Mary Kathryn Reese, owner of Kitchen Design Concepts. “Our clients love that this space can always be clean and tidy no matter how much laundry needs to be done.” A favorite component is the fold-away ironing board. Other features, such as the red washer and dryer and laundry hampers on roll-out drawers, are concealed behind the wall of doors on the right.
Ironing board pullout. If you’re tempted to let a few wrinkles on your clothes slide because dragging your ironing board out of the closet and setting it up is too much of a chore, this pullout may be the key to a freshly pressed lifestyle.
I don’t know why, but the space that houses the cleaning supplies (often a poorly lit closet) always tends to get a little messy. Try to keep things in order by incorporating a pullout especially for them.
Ironing cabinet. Another great way to save space is with an oldie but goodie, the ironing board cabinet. If you live in an older home that retains a lot of original features, you may even have one built into the wall. The board folds up and out of the way. I’ve always admired these — none of that dragging around and folding and unfolding of that cumbersome free-standing board
Pullout folding surface. This clever built-in offers the best of both worlds: a solid wall of cabinets for storage and a hidden countertop for folding.
Most pics show the wash/dryer in a "cabinet" like this. Not sure about cleaning the top of the machines and I know they will get dusty.
Clever cabinetry allows for the baskets to be rolled in beneath the laundry chute, which is also disguised by a cabinet. Whoever is doing laundry can roll the full bin over to the machines, replace it with an empty bin and use the other two for sorting.
. Utensil storage. How often have you spent too much time searching for your cooking utensils in a drawer that’s just a big pile of junk? By hanging them next to your stove, it’s impossible to overlook your favorite spatula.
