A Play Houzz needs to be an “adventure” not just for kids and not just in the typical sense of that word. Nell’s Playouse was designed to be both an architectural element in anyones backyard at the same time as being a vessel within which children can create their own sense of place and home. The exterior is a combination of antique columns, shiplap siding, with a cedar shake roof that covers the iconic front porch where a little chair awaits. The interior has shelves made from the framing and a simple loft bed with ladder. From the loft, a hideaway for day dreaming or sleepovers, the back gable is open for an outlook upon the world. This structure was designed to be a classic playhouse within which children play “house”. Isn’t that the beginning of everyones first architectural experience? It is a timeless American form and turns into a lovely garden folly long after the children are gone.
