Stone. It's a locally sourced fieldstone, probably from western Maryland or West Virginia. The key is to carefully work with the masons to lay it in a pattern following historic patterns, which tended to be load-bearing by nature. When stone is applied with the large flat face out, it can appear like wallpaper. We also like to use at least 5" thick veneer stone whenever possible.
