I am in the process of deciding the exact same thing. The wood tile you chose has a lot of movement with multiple shades. If you like white risers (I do, too), I'd see if you can do wood steps stained in a darker color to match the darker color in the tile you chose. That's my general plan so far. I will do carpet upstairs for noise control. I don't have any carpet upstairs now, and I can attest it makes my house LOUD. I have 3 boys, so I need to do what I can to soften the noise.

Noelle, as Bobbi said you might consider adding an area rug in the transition area. You might also consider using the same stair runner on both sets of stairs. That will tie them together as well, and hide most of the difference in the wood.
