What a treat it was to be asked to design not one, but two kitchens in this historic Charleston GEM. Through the process, I met so many people who previously had lived in one of the 6 apartments that were previously part of the house; all were amazed and delighted. The transformation was among the most dramatic I've experienced and working with Rob and his team, was a privilege and honor. The sparkling elements and soaring ceilings in the main kitchen together with the unique lower level details perfectly suit this special home.

A Summerville stunner to be sure, I am thrilled you're loving your "new" kitchen and bathroom. It was great to work with you and incorporate your ideas, the result is a fresh and functional home you'll be able to enjoy for decades. Thank you for your kind words!

When I initially suggested that we switch the location of the dining room to the front of the house, and move the kitchen to the back, the idea was not met with enthusiasm. Fortunately, these clients were open minded and the result is a functional and beautiful kitchen that is open to the living and dining areas convenient to family activities and outdoor space, as well as a bar area. The high sloped ceiling is accented with coastal blue tile and nautical lighting which is perfect for this Hilton Head island home.

When a client writes "YAY!" in the memo of the deposit check, the project is going to be fun. The happy attitude continued through construction to completion and the cheerful cabinet color and tile are favorites to be sure. Thank you very much, it was a pleasure indeed to help with your renovation.

Your historic home with it's iconic South of Broad location was thrilling for me to work in. I love that you embraced the charming details and traditional elements and worked to preserve the character of your house, it's warm, inviting and fully functional for a modern family. This project was a delight for me, you were receptive to fresh ideas for your not-so-huge space that you and your husband cook in daily. Thank you for taking the time to express your frustration, it sickens me that you’re upset as my goal is always delighted clients regardless of the budget. I am truly very upset that I fell short of that expectation.
When I meet with prospective clients, as was the case with you, we discuss goals and plans as well as the budget. For your master bathroom renovation, you wanted many changes including a dramatic re-design with plumbing being relocated, new tile flooring, shower walls, fixtures, cabinets, counters, storage etc. I was concerned with your budget constraints and I shared with you some resources regarding typical similar project costs as well as a budgeting tool to help you as you made decisions to allocate available funds etc. After reviewing all of this, you chose to retain my services for the re-design of the space even though the documents (Remodeling Magazine’s 2017 Cost V. Value Report ) I shared with you revealed much higher costs than your initial budget.
As you have suggested, I referred you to an excellent contractor, and after multiple plan revisions, the contractor visited the site with multiple trades people in order to accurately quote the labor portion of your project. Obviously, that cannot be done before the detailed scope of work is defined, and his estimate came in higher than anticipated.
Projects get scaled back and changed occasionally as customer’s dream spaces don’t match their spend limits. In your case both you and your spouse were emailing the contractor and me, however, it was not clear that some emails were intended for me, rather than the contractor. I am sure this added to your frustration.
When I work with clients and purchase materials for them from reputable vendors, I carefully consider how each piece fits with the next in terms of functionality, design and, of course, budget. Because you purchased your own items from various on-line sources I simply cannot take responsibility for pieces that were incompatible.
Again, I am sincerely distressed that you were not completely delighted with the services I provided.

We have done projects in far off places, some I've never seen in person. With text, email, and video conference options we can strategize and collaborate easily. I know the new buyers were delighted that they had updated fully functional spaces with exceptional storage for everything. I'm also thrilled you were able to enjoy the rooms prior to your big move across the country, and I look forward to assisting with the next project.

Mrs. Zaccaro initially contacted me November, 21, 2014, since then I have replied promptly to each inquiry, via text, phone or via email. I was excited to work with her to assist with her dreams of enriching her space to create the finishing touches for her lovely home.

Our first visit was without any cost or obligation to (over two hours on December 1, 2014) when I measured and listened to her complaints about the builder and her concerns and hopes/plans for the areas including the desk, butlers pantry, shelf niches, built in bench, display shelves including a kennel space for the Italian miniature Greyhound dogs, the laundry room and back hallway doors.

Mr. Zaccaro was not willing and or able to participate in any of our meetings including the follow up design presentation at their home where I shared the initial concept plans for the spaces which represented about 24 hours of design time, again with no cost to the the Zaccaro's.

Mrs. Zaccaro was thrilled with the plans and said she'd discuss them with her husband, and soon after emailed that they wanted to proceed with the desk area first, agreeing to a design retainer of $600.00 to be applied to the purchase of cabinetry exceeding $5,000.00 within sixty days. I delivered color blocks and immediately emailed the preliminary plans and we scheduled a follow up meeting for a week later; I revised the plans and priced the job with specific door-style, wood specie and finish based on her requests. The desk plan featured a specialized purse drawer, printer pull-out, hanging file storage space and fancy turned feet in addition to open shelving at the wall cabinets. The custom option was exactly what she said she wanted however the quality and therefore price was beyond what Mrs. Zaccaro was willing to spend. It was at that point that I began the quest for less expensive options that would come close to the finish and style of the custom option. I sent a multitude of door options to give a wide variety of options enabling her to to personalize it to her liking in keeping with the style she had already created in her special home which resembles a castle. Once Mrs. Zaccaro shared that there were too many options for her I sent my specific recommendations. I had a local shop replicate the custom finish in a special distressed glaze in an effort to decrease the price without compromising layout details. At that point Mrs. Zaccaro shared she had a prior price (from over a year ago) that was less money so I went back to the drawing board and revised the plans again and priced in another manufacturer that offers fewer options and embellishment. One element that Mrs. Zaccaro was not willing to compromise on was the egg and dart molding that is not readily available in the wood finishes that are less costly. I purchased multiple door samples which were sent directly from vendors to Mrs. Zaccaro in an attempt to find the perfect shade to compliment her existing color palette.

In March Mrs. Zaccaro requested additional design work, indicating she wanted to go ahead with other areas previously discussed but still could not find the perfect color.

Between design revisions for the desk, conferences with the vendor regarding samples and pricing various options I spent about 38 hours on the desk area alone, which doesn't include any of the trips or meeting time in Mt. Pleasant. I was willing to devote the extra time (beyond the 14 hours covered in the initial $600 Design Retainer) because I was excited for the transformation to create a special place for the Zaccaro's. I don't typically sell designs which is why the plans that were provided to her indicate "not released for construction" and "this drawing is the exclusive property of Delicious Kitchens, LLC" they were not final and therefore not fully detailed or for the use of another cabinet maker.

In late May Mrs. Zaccaro said she did not feel I had provided any value: this is a situation I have not encountered in over 20 years in the kitchen business; my clients are delighted and I certainly wanted this for the Zaccaro's as well.

Thank you kindly for your comments; your stylish laundry room was a delight to execute. From the re-purposed granite to the multiple storage options and space utilization it's functional and beautiful; so glad you're enjoying it!

After all these years it was a treat to be in your lovely kitchen a few weeks ago. Timeless design is something that is often requested with clients... your kitchen surely meets the criteria. The accent color for the island, rich moulding and well-placed appliances will be appreciated by buyers.
