We have had the same apartment in NYC for more than 40 years. I moved in in 1976 as the second tenant of a 1974 building. All the fixtures were contractor grade and, after 40 plus years and many more to go, a new kitchen and bathroom were needed. Everything we had heard about renovating an apartment in NYC was a horror story: cost overruns, unreliable contractors, etc. Having never renovated anything before, we were apprehensive, to say the least. We searched, planned, and vetted design build firms located in NYC for two years prior to our project. We narrowed it down to three, received proposals from them, and selected not the cheapest – but not the most expensive either. They also happened to be located two blocks from our apartment. We can tell you without hesitation, you need look no further than East Side Design. Samir and his team worked tirelessly with us to design and plan every aspect of the makeover. They gave us appropriate push-back, presented smart options and alternatives, respected our wishes, and always kept their sense of humor and professionalism. They also kept us on budget! The only surprises we had were of our own making: pricing tile and then expecting it to be the same two years later. But everything that Samir was responsible for stayed consistently priced. Despite labor costs increasing during the pandemic, he kept his word and kept the prices we had agreed to. East Side Design managed every aspect of the project and worked with our building management, city inspectors, painters, and our cabinet makers. When the doors we wanted were going to take 6 weeks to arrive, East Side suggested their workers build them. They were perfect....better than what we were going to order. When we had a tricky tiling situation, they provided a beautiful, sleek alternative. And the work they did...all of it...was precise, artful, and done with pride. Our building manager came by the other week and could not believe the tile work in the bathroom. He mentioned that he had seen a lot of less-than-good work during his years. It was clear he was impressed; so were we.....completely, and with the entire project. We would work with East Side Design, Samir, Georgi, Karen, Gocha, and their team members again, without question or hesitation. We also recommend them in the same fashion. p.s. Berceli remodeled my kitchen and bathroom. As with most construction projects, there were unexpected issues that arose. What impressed me the most about Samir and the Berceli team is the way they were able to deal with the expected and the unexpected issues, and there were several. Samir and Giorgi’s design turned a pipe that went through the middle of a wall we knocked down into an architectural structure instead of just covering the pipe as other contractors suggested, it looks beautiful and no one can tell we were trying to cover a pipe. Both projects exceeded my expectations. I also appreciate that Berceli was there to help after the projects were completed. Several years after my kitchen remodel, I bought a new microwave that did not fit into the built-in panel set up for the old microwave. When I told Samir about the problem, he did not hesitate to cut the panel for me so that my new microwave would fit. When my son decided to remodel his bathroom and tear down a wall in his living room, I did not hesitate to recommend Berceli and they did not disappoint. He loves the remodel. I will definitely use Berceli on any of my future renovations and I highly recommend them without hesitation. JH

Overall, I found that Berceli was accommodating, skillful, focused on the project and ensuring that my expectations were fulfilled. The various subcontractors/professionals that Berceli used clearly demonstrated the focus, attention to detail and craftsmanship that I would describe as first-rate. I was pleased with my experience with the staff working for Berceli that helped me with a firm understanding of how the project would appear based on the renderings provided to me by the designer. Very pleased with the focus and dedication of the actual crew members that worked as part of the Berceli team throughout the entirety of the project. The regular visits by Ronnie ensured that I maintained a comfort in knowing that he was actively involved with the management of the renovation project made it clear that the renovation to be a success. In the end, my completed renovation has provided me with a completely new and different look such that I feel as if I have moved into a new place.

Our last project with Berceli was in 2011. We are very pleased with the work done at that time and would not hesitate to go back if we have another project. Ours was a bit complicated as we had our kitchen and 2½ bathrooms done by Berceli in 2005, but then moved to another apartment in the same building. Berceli were able to move much of our cabinetry and appliances over and duplicate the bathrooms. Their workmen were very professional!

The professionalism and craftsmanship of the Berceli team is excellent. My project consisted of replacing hardwood floors throughout my entire apartment, complete demo and redo of the kitchen, moving and building two walls, adding in all new custom doors, painting, and moving light fixtures. The overall project took a few weeks longer than expected and did cost more than originally planned. This however was not the fault of the Berceli but due to the custom and special order finishes I desired plus some complex unforeseen things which were found during demolition. The Berceli team delivered a final project that has exceeded my expectations and met all of my desires. They were very willing to listen to my ideas and comments throughout the project even if that meant changes to work in progress. There were some hiccups along the way, as with any renovation, but the end result is what matters here and it is fantastic. I would certainly work with Berceli again and have already recommended them to others.

We used Berceli twice within 10 years. First to do a complete renovation of our kitchen. The outcome is spectacular and involved a tremendous amount of intricate porcelain tile work. 9 years later we required a modification to some plumbing and decided to address that and redo a small section of the room. This time the area was surgically taken apart to spare any damage to the rest of the room and the new materials were installed to perfection. The revised kitchen is more stunning than the first time around. The staff and workers are a dream to deal with and they complete the work in an amazing time frame. This experience is the opposite of what anyone would expect. We will use them again without a hesitation.

Bercelli did a great total bathroom remodel for me.Every day I use my fabulous shower I thank them. Their designer was great and the workmanship was excellent. They are very business like and professional.

Complete renovation of our bathroom. From the start - picking out fixtures, tiles, layout to the completed project everything was perfect. We went into the project with a good idea of what we wanted done, Berceli added wonderful touches, suggested fabulous fixtures and tile. Most importantly the workmanship was excellent, the project was both on-time and on-budget. The fellow that did the majority of the work was professional and personable. Our apartment was left spotless at the end of each days work. He made suggestions, came up with innovative solutions to problems that always arise. Berceli was an on-site management presence and kept us up to date on all aspects of the project. In the middle of the project we decided to add replacing the tile floor in our kitchen and replacing all the kitchen appliances. This change did not cause any problems. We won't use anyone else for renovations we do in the future!

Two bathrooms completed on time and on budget! Excellent workmanship and very high quality appliances for the price. The management kept a close eye on the project the whole time, until completion. Follow ups on comments and changes were quick and on target. The whole teams were knowledgeable and highly professional. What could have been a difficult process proved to be an easy project.

We just completed our 2nd job with Berceli, which pretty much says it all, for if we had not been so happy the first time, we would never have invited them back for a second. We did a total master bath gut reno and I have to say there was never a day that some member of the crew was not there hard at work. They worked as neatly as possible, and did a thorough cleanup everyday; even swiffering our floors, to keep our home clean. The tradesmen, from tile installer to plumber to electrician all did their jobs expertly and the finished bathroom is beautiful. What was most impressive was the hands on involvement of the owner, who stopped by daily to inspect the work and keep us updated. When minor things did not go as we had all expected, they professionally handled the problem and resolved it completely to our satisfaction. I cannot recommend a company as highly as I do them. I trusted them in my home and that in itself, speaks volumes of the confidence I have in their workmanship and integrity.

Workmanship was excellent and workers were very pleasant and professional. I love my baths and kitchen as much today as I did a year ago when it was installed. The design team was very creative and professional.

Berceli did a gut renovation of our NYC apartment kitchen and one of our bathrooms along with cosmetic updates to two other bathrooms and a powder room. We are absolutely delighted with the result!!! We worked with Samir, Georgi, Cindy and Karen throughout the design phase, getting Board and City approvals and through to end including inspections and recovery of our deposit. Despite the expected disruption and dust, we will lived in our apartment the whole time and saw first hand the crew at work and got to make minor adjustments along the way. They were all highly skilled, polite, responsive to questions and considerate all the way to the clean up. We are happy to recommend Berceli with no caveats and would go to them again if we needed to.

I recently had my whole apartment renovated by Berceli and I am extremely satisfied! My apartment needed a complete redo and they made my dream apartment become a reality. I decided to remove and replace all of the oak hardwood flooring throughout the apartment (which could no longer be sanded and scraped), combined my bedroom and hallway closet to create a luxurious walk in closet, removed and replaced all old tiles, plumbing fixtures and accessories in my bathroom and replaced all of my dated kitchen cabinetry with beautiful white high gloss cabinetry. It was a lot to do at once but Berceli really made the process easy. They took care of the whole management process for me and their excellent designers really dedicated a lot of time and energy to understand and produce my design ideas to perfection. Last but not least, my project Manager Ronnie was always there for me, if not in person, through emails or phone calls, throughout the whole renovation to answer any questions and oversee the job as I spent many weeks out of town to avoid dust & noise. I highly recommend Berceli to anyone looking for a one stop shop with excellent bath & kitchen designers as well as a professional knowledgeable staff.

Berceli just finished a gut renovation on my very old, very small NYC kitchen, and the transformation has been dramatic. Among other things, they opened the wall adjacent to the living room, and I now have a 9-foot long counter between the two with pendant lighting that really improves food preparation, entertaining, etc. In fact, I am planning to get a couple of counter-height chairs and use it for most meals from here on. The openness of the space really makes me feel like I'm living in a different apartment. And the cabinets underneath have doubled my storage space. That said, I imagine any reputable kitchen contractor could do this sort of work. What really impressed me about Berceli was the management of the project. I've been through this before in another apartment, and I know that the right contractor can keep a kitchen renovation that should take 3-4 weeks from dragging on for a couple of months. They finished on time and cleaned up as they went, which was important since I stayed in the apartment throughout the renovation. They were also great at dealing with the inevitable hiccups you encounter along the way on jobs like this. After all, you never know what you are going to find when you open up the walls in very old buildings. In my case, the arrangement of the water pipes was somewhat unusual. Berceli adjusted the design as needed but never pushed me into making a decision that made me uncomfortable. The owner of the company visited the job site regularly, and the guys on the crew really cared about their work. They even made suggestions that only enhanced the end product.

We had Berceli renovate our bathroom, and they did a really nice job. Although they do a lot of high end work, we were actually looking for something a little more modest using subway tiles. They worked with us to come up with a solution we could afford, and the project was done in a collaborative spirit. They also helped guide us through the labyrinth of permissions one has to get in New York City if you live in a coop. It's also worth noting that our building super was happy with the way they cleaned up throughout the process. This is one of those intangibles that you don't see in the finished job but that makes a difference.

Great experience from start to finish! Berceli completely renovated two bathrooms in our apartment and partially redid our third bathroom and kitchen. From our very first meeting with Cindy, the designer, we were immediately comfortable and impressed. At the next meeting in our apartment with Cindy as well as the contractor, Samir, we knew we wanted to work with this team. They had such great design and practical ideas while at the same time listened carefully to what we wanted our apartment to look like in the end. Every element of our apartment turned out exactly the way we envisioned. Together we looked at and chose tiles, fixtures, hardware and stone and it came out beautifully. We get a lot of compliments. Samir was, and continues to be, involved in any minor issues that arise (and the job was completed 6 months ago). He was very quick to complete the job on time and finish any outstanding punch list items. They have really gone above and beyond their job; they even assisted in plumbing issues in our apartment that was caused by a building wide problem (nothing caused by Berceli). It should also be noted that the office management team, especially Karen, is really easy to work with and knowledgeable in dealing with the City and the Management companies to get the job started and finished in a timely fashion. And the workers were amazing-always careful and attentive in every way as well as very trustworthy. I hired Berceli to remodel the bathroom in my NYC apartment. I am not sure when it had previously been remodeled by the prior owner, but it was in sore need of being updated and turned into a more functional space for full-time living. I cannot say enough good things about the team at Berceli. They were extremely responsive during the whole design process. They provided excellent and design suggestions and floor plans and helped me understand every step of the process. When there were certain things I wanted to purchase on my own, they were completely willing to let me do so. They worked with my building and were able to get design and construction approval without difficulty. When the project started, the workmanship was excellent and the workmen polite, prompt and tidy. In fact, they went above and beyond many times. As I was about to start demolition on my voluntary project, I had to delay significantly due to a leak in my apartment that required significant work. My on project with Berceli turned into 2 quickly, and both turned out perfectly. I would recommend Berceli to anyone, and will use them again for any future projects.

We engaged Berceli to remodel our kitchen in our New York apartment. The kitchen was unchanged since the building was completed in 1986. The layout was poor, making it almost impossible for two persons to work in there at the same time. We had thought about how we wanted to change it and had a specific re-modeling in mind. Berceli’s designer created the final design after discussing various ideas for improving the initial design we had come up with. We ordered our cabinets from Berceli (Miralis, custom made in Canada) and Berceli set up an appointment with a tile shop in Manhattan to help us select our floor tiles and backsplash tiles. (We bought our appliances from Gringer & Sons, who coordinated delivery with Berceli.) The work took six weeks, as planned. The Berceli team that did the work was excellent. They took great care in protecting our living room and dining room floors and containing dust within the “tent” enclosing the work area. They cleaned up thoroughly before leaving each evening. They adhered to all the condominium’s regulations and remained on good terms with the building staff throughout the job. They consulted me whenever necessary during the work (I was working from home part of the time), proposing options for running new electric lines (I opted for a route that involved making three small holes in a bedroom wall), and proposing plumbing options (I opted for sealing off the original water line to the refrigerator and running a new one from under the sink, so I could have an easier-to-access shut-off valve there). The team was particularly impressive when it came to cosmetic details. For example, when doing the backsplash they spent several hours planning the tile layout and discussing it with me before starting work. Most impressive of all, they found a way of mounting the Miele retractable range hood that we had chosen so that, when retracted, it was exactly flush with the front of the adjacent wall cabinets (something not provided for in Miele’s installation kit and something we had not seen in any showroom). We are delighted with our new kitchen and dining-area cabinet unit. Not only does it look beautiful but now the two of us can work in the kitchen at the same time. We can also talk to guests sitting in the living room while we work, because the kitchen is now so opened-up to the living and dining areas of the main room.

We are totally happy with the results of our kitchen re-do by Berceli. We are in a NYC Classic 6 with a good-sized galley kitchen. We are that NYC rarity, in that we cook almost every night. We were perfectly content with the kitchen footprint, but it sadly needed an upgrade. The estimate we got from the project manager, Samir, was not cheap, but totally accurate. There were no surprises. The designer somehow managed to not only create a beautiful kitchen, but somehow got us a lot more storage in the same space...I still can't figure out how. Cindi helped us with the fine details as colors and backsplash, which added to the overall look. Were there glitches along the way? Of course there were, as you don't tear out a complete kitchen without having some problems. However, Berceli was immediately responsive, answering emails and calls very promptly if something didn't look right. i would hire them again without question.
