During the planning and selection stage for his daughter's project it became evident that he wanted to run the project and do things that myself, my tile setter, and my tile supplier all agreed would not turn out as imagined. The photos he showed were of different products and different terminal points. What he wanted and what we felt could be done were not congruent.
At one point during the selection process for kitchen back splash tile, he stated that his daughter, whom I never met or talked to, wanted a mix of two tiles. When it was asked in what proportions, he stated "your the designer". In our experience this is not where a builder wants to go with a client as it almost always ends up with the statement "That's not what I wanted!" We strive to not set our clients or ourselves up for failure.
I am sorry we could not provide the client with a project. When it became evident that we were on two different pages, we refunded his money in full.
