mugsy, what's interesting to me is what takes off in the US vs. other continents. It seems like Europe and Australia, for example, are quicker to embrace some of the bolder designs earlier, whereas here in the states we tend to be a bit more conservative with elements like tile and cabinets.

Love the penny tile on the bedroom wall. Only reservation I have with some of the bolder patterns is that unlike wallpaper, tile is not so easily removed when you tire of the design, or go to sell your home.
