Ready for family fun, this outdoor living area was designed to showcase the natural greenery of the Pacific Northwest around planned areas for relaxation, outdoor dining and entertainment. It was built using Mutual Material Columbia Slate patio stone and RomanStack retaining wall block for the tree ring.
The well-design backyard also features outdoor entertaining under a covered area, as the patio extends into an outdoor dining room. The outdoor dining area features a built-in food serving station, finished with a thin stone veneer of Cultured Stone Country Ledgestone in the color Umber Creek.

This is one colorful lawn replacement! It's hard not to stare as your drive by. We replaced artificial turf with a pollinator friendly, drought tolerant garden. The clients wanted the unusual and a garden they could make cut arrangements the year around with flowers and foliage. The mad foliage color brightens the house in what is typically a foggy neighborhood. There is also an Asian Pear shoe horned in that we plan to espalier on the front of the house. Also a lemon and lime although they are too small to see so far. And this is just a baby garden! It's been in for about 6 months in this picture so its got plenty of time to evolve its already explosive personality.

"Plenty of bench seating for entertaining small parties, or for stargazing during the warm summer nights. Within the raised concrete beds are a Meyer Lemon tree and a Bay Laurel tree. Alongside the fence are fruiting trees like Pineapple Guava, Apple, Donut Peach, Pear, and a vegetable bed. The non-fruiting trees are Dodonaea viscosa purpurea."

Each outdoor room of this El Cerrito Mid Century Modern backyard deck, from the outdoor kitchen, to the dining area, to lounge area, maximize the views of the bay. This couple were very excited about and involved in designing the look and feel of their outdoor living space. For instance, instead of the typical deck redwood flooring, we were able to accommodate their desire to have a flagstone floor built on a redwood frame, which was more in keeping with their Mid Century Modern style. The husband was a gourmet chef and particularly enjoyed the design of his specialty outdoor kitchen.
