Beetle Kill pine

A common question we get is "why does your beetle kill pine have so much more color and character than everyone else's"? Our answer: Because we hand pick them in the forest prior to harvesting. Armed with a trained eye and forest knowledge, our crew knows which trees will yield the best color based on the bark, elevation, location, and how long they have been dead. We have no scientific evidence, but from what we've observed Montana Ponderosa Pine trees yield more color than other states. Maybe our long winters and heavy snow keeps the moisture in the trees longer than other areas allowing the fungus to penetrate deeper into the wood.
