A Garden room separating garage from house proper. A repurposed tannery bench found and detailed by the architect creates this handsome room. Earthy and elemental materials are selected for the home that reference the barn without directly mimicking it. Wooden members found inside the barn and from other barns bridge ceilings and are used in floors along with rustic slate adding to a sense of simplicity to the farmhouse design.

Furthering her plan to enhance the room's architecture, Suzanne turned one corner of the kitchen into a cheery dining area with an L-shaped built-in bench that mimics the cabinetry. To keep the dining nook cozy (not restaurant-like) she surrounded the metal bistro table with slipcovered armchairs and hung a sparkly chandelier above. Using the same patterned fabric on the window valances and pillows throughout (Montmartre in Clay/Blue from her own collection for Lee Jofa; leejofa.com), Suzanne introduced color and life to the kitchen without taking away from the all-white effect. Tuscan Blue Design was brought into this project (house addition) when the client realized she needed a creative-functional-layout for her new kitchen. The first thing the client said to us was that she wanted to see the view out the bay window as she cooked in her kitchen...that led to the idea of two functional islands instead of perimeter cabinetry. She was drawn to farmhouse style kitchens but didn't want her space to feel 'country'. The large kitchen is part of a great room that includes a living area with built in display shelves for artwork. The kitchen features two separate islands, one for entertaining and one for casual dining and food preparation. A 5' Galley Workstation, pop up knife block, and specialized storage accessories complete one island, along with the fabric wrapped banquette and personalized stainless steel corner wrap designed by Woodmaster Kitchens.
